Olive W. Smith, 88, of Blackfoot passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010, at her home. She was born May 23, 1922, in Rexburg, to William Ernest and Eulalia Elzada Humble Westover. She was raised and attended school in Rexburg. She has lived in Rexburg and in Blackfoot for the past 60 years.
On July 8, 1941, she married LeRoy Smith, in Rexburg. A few days later, on July 15, 1941, their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2006. Olive was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she served in the Primary, served a mission with her husband and as a visiting teacher. She worked at State Hospital South for over 20 years. Olive enjoyed camping, fishing, embroidery, reading, making quilts and collecting pig memorabilia. Her most favorite times were those spent with her family. She is survived by her daughters: Marilyn Bates of Blackfoot, Myrna Smithof Riverside, Fern (Grant) Reid of Rexburg, Colleen (Clarence) Waddoups of Rigby, Glenda (Steve) Howe of Nampa, Brenda Myers of Idaho Falls; daughter-in-law, Jacque Smith of Rockford; brother, William (Marcella) Westover of Clearfield, Utah; sister, Elda (Clark) Joy of Montana; 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; a son, Del Roy, her parents, five brothers, Kenneth, Harold, Cecil, Claude and Reese Westover, two sisters, Leora Johnson and Elnora Smith, and two grandchildren, Darrell Bates and Andy Waddoups. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Riverside LDS Chapel. The family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to:
