Where has the fall sports season gone? On the pitch area teams will be wrapping up their regular seasons in the next two weeks. Volleyball and cross country are right behind them and, to be perfectly honest, the only thing that I know for a certainty is that I have no clear idea of who will emerge from their respective leagues for a state tournament trip.
Joe H. Rainwater, 87, Pocatello resident passed away at his home following an illness on Sept. 24, 2010.
He was born January 18, 1923 in Porum, Oklahoma to a family of four children, two boys and two girls. He attended school in Porum, Oklahoma, graduating from high school in 1940.
Joe attended Conners State Ag. College, Warner, Oklahoma and O.S.U in 1942 until graduation in 1944. He received his degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, Joe was drafted in to the Army and was immediately put into the Navy as a Seaman 1st Class.
BLACKFOOT â€” Blackfoot Community Center administrators are seeking the publicâ€™s help in developing the programming and design of their proposed new facility.
The Community Center is hosting an initial interest meeting for anyone interested in serving on a Building Committee. The interest meeting will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Blackfoot Community Center at 157 W. Sexton.
Community Center Executive Director Ashlee Howell said the committee is an opportunity for the public to provide input on the new facility.
â€śWe hope to get a variety of people interested and involved,â€ť Howell said.
BLACKFOOT â€“Â Offer a kid an apple and he will run a lap? That was the plan at Ridge Crest Elementary Friday and it worked.
In order to promote healthy lifestyles, students at Ridge Crest have the opportunity to walk or run laps during afternoon recess with volunteers standing at a checkpoint offering encouragement and punching walking cards. The physical activity is meant to help establish healthy habits for life.
The turnout on the track was much higher Friday when students learned there was a free apple after walking the first lap.
