September 22nd
Alma Jemmett Reid, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at her home near Blackfoot.
She was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Shelley to Clifford and Daphne Webb Jemmett. She was the middle child of a loving family of four girls and five boys.
Alma was raised along Cedar Creek in the Blackfoot River Mountains. She boarded part time in Firth to attend high school, and then went on to business college in Salt Lake City, Utah. She worked for the Navy Depot in Clearfield, Utah, until returning to Idaho to marry her cowboy sweetheart, Fred Reid, on Dec. 27, 1942.Â
POCATELLO — Hundreds of family, friends and well-wishers were on hand to support soldiers of the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team as they left for Camp Shelby, Miss., Tuesday afternoon from the Pocatello Airport.
In all, 420 troops were deployed from Eastern Idaho, said Capt, Eric Sharp.
Two hundred thirty troops flew out of Idaho Falls Tuesday morning; the remaining 190 soldiers flew out of Pocatello in the afternoon.
This will be the second deployment to Iraq for about half the troops with the 116th, Sharp said.

SHELLEY — The Shelley Lady Russets welcomed the Blackfoot Lady Broncos to town on Tuesday afternoon as the new conference foes battled it out on the pitch for the last time this regular season.
In a highly entertaining contest Blackfoot emerged triumphant 3-1 but not without a valiant fight by the Lady Russets.
SHELLEY — County foes collided for the second time this soccer season this time on the home field of the Shelley Russets as the Blackfoot squad came calling for a High Country Conference showdown.
With the moon rising overhead, the Broncos prevailed 6-0 in a twilight match that witnessed good things being done on each sideline.

Seth J. Taylor, 86, passed away Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at home.
Roger M. Williams, 55, passed away Sept. 18, 2010, in the arms of his loved ones at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 22, 1955, in Idaho Falls to Alton E. Williams and Joyce Elizabeth Obrey Williams.
Roger grew up in the Idaho Falls-Iona area and attended Bonneville High School.
He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) for 27 years. Prior to working at the INL, he worked at Ermal’s and had an automotive repair shop at his home. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.
THOMAS — When state officials call Paul and Jacque Burt about possible placement of a foster child, they ask their children if it's O.K. to bring another child into their home.
"It's a family affair; everyone is part of the decision," said Jacque, who has been a foster parent for the past nine years. She and Paul began fostering while he was on active duty in the Navy in South Carolina. They have also provided foster care in Georgia and Idaho.
"We don't count," she said of the number they've taken into their home. "We usually do little guys, four and under."
SHELLEY – National champions, Proform Airborne Jump Rope, performed twice Saturday at Spud Day in Shelley.
The team of Paige Barker, Stephanie Bowman and Janessa Brown earned first place at the 2010 National Jump Rope Competition. These three athletes won the national title in “Double Dutch Single Free Style.” The national competition was in June in Galveston, Texas. Â
This is the second year in a row Barker earned first place in this event. In 2008, Barker and her teammates placed third.
BLACKFOOT — For perfect attendance this school year, every fifth grader in District 55 (Blackfoot) will be given a new 21-speed Diamondback Mountain Bike by Phil Meador Toyota in Pocatello.
A 2011 model year bike will be special ordered and purchased from Scott's Ski and Sports in Pocatello, Jason Meador from Phil Meador Toyota said.
The program is called Perfect Attendance Spells Success (PASS), Meador said. The program is for every fifth grader attending school in District 55 (Blackfoot), Pocatello and American Falls.
BLACKFOOT — National Guard soldiers from the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team from throughout Idaho are departing today for Camp Shelby in Mississippi.
Three planes are departing from the Idaho Falls Airport this morning between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. This afternoon, two planes will depart from the Pocatello Regional Airport between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
