Fort Hall students visit Blackfoot Library

BLACKFOOT — Fort Hall students who attend the after-school program at Fort Hall Elementary visited the Blackfoot Public Library Monday afternoon.
"There's over 60,000 books in the library," said librarian Brenda Wilcox. "There's always new things to see in the library."
Besides books, there are computers, videos, DVDs, newspapers and activities.
"We want you to have a good time when you come to the library," Wilcox said.

Former Blackfoot star returns home

Blackfoot's favorite daughter will return to her old stomping grounds when Raimee Beck and her Air Force Academy teammates come to Reed Gym on Thursday night. They will play a women’s basketball game against Idaho State.
To say that I am looking forward to seeing Beck again is like saying I kind of like pizza. I plan on being there early Thursday night and I am expecting to see quite a few members of the community in the gym as well.

Edna Mae Dunn, 74

Edna Mae Dunn, 74, of Blackfoot passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Services will be held at a later date in Stanley. Cremation has taken place by Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.

Jerry Bruce Goodwin, 76

Jerry Bruce Goodwin, 76, of Blackfoot, passed away at his home on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, from a lingering illness.
Jerry was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Thomas, the oldest son of Chester Lamar and Vanona Wright Goodwin. He graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1952 where he was active in baseball and boxing. He married Connie Martin on Nov. 26, 1958, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they raised five daughters and one son.

Students learn about Veterans Day first-hand

BLACKFOOT — On Thursday, students attending Wapello Elementary spoke with the father of fourth grader Trevor Robertson during the Veterans' Day assembly at the school.
Trevor's dad is Staff Sgt. D.J. Robertson who is deployed with the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team. The 116th is the Idaho National Guard unit currently stationed at Camp Shelby in Mississippi. Troops began deployment to Kuwait and Iraq on Sunday.

Broncos buck the Hawks 35-20

POCATELLO — A pair of 4A heavyweights stood toe-to-toe on Friday night inside the comfy confines of ISU's Holt Arena.
At the end of the highly anticipated match up, the defending 4A state champion Blackfoot Broncos emerged triumphant with a comfortable 35-20 victory over the Skyview Hawks.
"Looking into the season and at our area I'm thinking heck, we're as good as anybody," Blackfoot head coach Stan Buck said. "We have some potential kids that can make plays so why not us. It was just a matter of how we developed and gelled and now we're there and we are excited and happy about it."

Panthers take a bite out of Bulldogs

POCATELLO - The Snake River Panthers rode the strength of their defense as they downed the visiting Kimberly Bulldogs in the semi finals of the A3 state tournament by a score of 26-0.
So dominating was the defense that they held Kimberly to negative yardage in the first half and without a first down until 10:12 of the third quarter.
“I have to give all the credit for the great defense tonight to the kids and the defensive coaches,” said Coach Jeff Dalley. “Coaches Rich Dunn, Jeff Toulouse and Brian McInelly came up with a great game plan and the kids executed it perfectly.”

Eunice Fisher, 85

Eunice Fisher, 85, of Fort Hall, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home and will be announced.

Veterans gather at Firth assembly

FIRTH — Ninety-eight veterans attended the veterans’ day assembly at Firth High School Thursday morning. The gym was mostly full as veterans, members of the community and the student bodies of Firth High School and Firth Middle School were present.
The assembly honored veterans and their families.
Mel Richardson, one of the hosts of the Probing America Radio Talk Show, was the speaker. He was impressed with the number of veterans in attendance at the assembly.
“My dad fought in “The Great War,” Richardson said. “He was part of Pershing’s troops in the war to end all wars—World War I.”

BLACKFOOT — Bingham County Planning and Zoning (P&Z) commissioners denied the special use permit request of the Blue Ribbon Energy LLC to build 27 wind turbines.
Blue Ribbon proposed putting the turbines on 2,500 acres on the hills southeast of Goshen owned by six landowners: Paul Reid, Bryce and Mary Fielding of Hillside Farms, Ken and Becky Davis, Richard and Charlotte Reid, C. Keith and Karma Fielding and Carol Reid.
Commissioners Lee Hammett proposed tabling the application “because this is a new process.”
