November 10th
BLACKFOOT — Five families in Blackfoot or Aberdeen may have the opportunity to build their own homes under a program offered by the Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency.
SEICAA is recruiting five families to participate in the Mutual Self-Help Housing program. Under the program, the families work together to build their own homes under the supervision of an experienced construction supervisor.
“They’re learning the skills to build their own home,” SEICAA Affordable Housing Director Shalynn Perisol said.
BLACKFOOT — The Idaho Potato Museum has been nominated for the Hampton Hotels Save-a-Landmark program and could win a substantial grant to help restore the museum.
The money would be used to restore the potato bar in the museum to bring back fresh “taters for out-of-staters.”
Potato Museum Director Rebecca Price said they have been wanting to restore the potato bar, which was a popular feature of the museum.
“We would use it to restore the restaurant,” Price said. “We’re still trying to reopen that.”

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Fire Department is offering free smoke detectors and fire safety inspections to interested community members.
The Fire Department will deliver, install and test smoke detectors. They can also provide fire safety tips and evaluate a home for potential fire hazards. The goal is to work to prevent fires and to save lives when a fire does happen.
“We’d like to get out and help people,” Capt. Dave Krumenacker said.
Smoke detectors can help alert people inside a home to a fire, increasing their chances of getting out alive.
November 8th
BLACKFOOT — The 4A High Country Conference selected their All-Conference picks for the 2010 soccer season and on the roster are quite a few Bingham County athletes.
On the boys team, Blackfoot placed 4 players on the first team with Luis Oseguera, Gerra Bartolo, Titus Robinson and Carlos Murrillo each making the prestigious first squad.
Freshman goal keeper Ozzie Oseguera was the lone Bronco named to the second team but he was joined by Shelley junior Jason Park who was selected to the second team for the Russets.
BLACKFOOT – Is your teacher the biggest Bengal fan? If you have ever sat in a class or played on a court with Dan Hale, the answer is yes.
Hale has proudly supported the Idaho State Bengals for the last 39 years and, win or lose, rain or shine, in good years and bad he can be found cheering with his family beside him. He was recently awarded third place in the Syringa Wireless “Is Your Teacher the Biggest Bengal Fan?” contest. Hale was presented a check for $150 on the field at an ISU football game.
November 5th
Farris I Wixom, 77, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at The Willows in Blackfoot.
Farris was born January 28, 1933 to Irvin Wixom and Hannah Butt in Blackfoot, Idaho. He attended school in the Snake River School District graduating from Thomas-Moreland High School. Other than living in different towns due to construction jobs, he lived his entire life in Blackfoot.
On March 10, 1956 Farris married Mary Joyce Anderson in Elko, Nevada. Together they had five children, Cheryl, Bryan, Serena, Lauri and Dana. Farris and Mary were later divorced.
Florien Van Sickle, a 76-year-old Blackfoot resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, in Pocatello.
She was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Peter Misch and Florence Roggie Misch.
She moved to California at age 8 and in 1952 at the age of 17 married Harold Van Sickle, in Reno, Nev. They moved to Jefferson, Iowa after Harold was discharged from the Navy and moved back to California in 1970. They lived there until 1992 when they moved to Southeast Idaho and have lived here since.
Jane Lucille Pack Lundberg, the angel that Heaven lent to us for 74 years, peacefully returned to the Savior’s arms on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was a humble, noble and loving soul— she was simply “awesome, awesome.”
BLACKFOOT — The special use permit requested by the Blue Ribbon Energy LLC to build a wind farm in a natural resource/agriculture zone on the Goshen bench will be continued to Wednesday, Nov. 10.
Discussion on this wind farm started at 10 p.m. Wednesday and ended at 2:30 a.m. Thursday. P&Z commissioners heard testimony from all the people present. The wind farm decision was continued until Wednesday, Nov. 10.
At the meeting on Nov. 10, P&Z commissioners will present their rationale for there decision, then vote on approving or denying the special use permit.
BLACKFOOT — An agreement to allow ambulance service employees to work at Bingham Memorial Hospital was finalized earlier this week and may be enacted later this month.
“Everything is pretty much ready to go,” Blackfoot Fire Chief Kevin Gray said.
The agreement was signed by Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue in October, and was finalized by the Bingham County commissioners this week. The agreement has also been agreed upon by BMH.
