MVMS students get reward

BLACKFOOT – With a new dress code policy, budget cuts, and high expectations what are students at Mountain View Middle School supposed to do? On Friday that answer was celebrate and have fun!
It is principal Brian Kress' first year at the helm of MVMS. He says that when the 2010-2011 school year started he knew he was asking and expecting a lot from his students. A recent review of the student body's overall performance pleased Kress and he decided it warranted a reward.

Jean Tucker Smith, 89

Jean Tucker Smith, 89, of Moreland passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at her home.
Jean was born May 18, 1921, to Henry Roscoe and Ruth Siddoway Tucker in Teton City.  She was reared in the Teton City area, attending area schools, and graduated from Madison High School. 

Doctor shares experience in Haiti

POCATELLO — The Southeastern District Health Department hosted the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Volunteer Annual Meeting to acknowledge National Preparedness Month.
The keynote speaker for the meeting was Dr. Ralph Heckard. Heckard, a Blackfoot primary care physician, spent two weeks providing healthcare in Haiti following a devastating earthquake on Jan. 12. He has since been to Haiti eight additional times to provide medical care.

Broncos swat Bees; Win big on homecoming night

BLACKFOOT — Tonight's homecoming dance at Blackfoot High School will be a happy occasion as the Blackfoot football team swatted the Bonneville Bees 28-12 on the grid iron Friday night.
"We try to stay real focused in practice no matter who we are playing and that is what it's all about," Blackfoot head coach Stan Buck said. "You practice hard and know who your responsibilities are and things like that and carry it over into the game."

Lynn Dean Haight, 88

ARCO — Lynn Dean Haight, 88, passed away, Sept. 30, 2010, at the Lost Rivers Living Center. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at the Little Lost River Bible Church with Pastor Keith Stayman officiating. Interment will be at the Howe Cemetery under the direction of Anderson Family Funeral Home of Arco.

Jean T. Smith, 89, of Moreland passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Bingham Memorial Hospital from an apparent heart attack.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.

Carlee Deaun Evening, 27, of Blackfoot passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Family is under the care of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.  Service arrangements are pending and will be announced.

T-Shirt Shoppe celebrating 15 years

BLACKFOOT — Fifteen years ago Nancy Nation decided she wanted a career change. She purchased a small print shop that had a screen printing machine and a retail front. It was then that the T-Shirt Shoppe was founded.
Nation set out with little printing experience. She had a brief lesson from the former owner and was self-taught by reading trade magazines and attending apparel conventions throughout the country.

Homecoming

October 1, 2010

Thursday was Spirit Day at Blackfoot High School. Homecoming royalty will be introduced this morning at an assembly from 9:50 to 11 o’clock. High School students will be released at 1 p.m. The homecoming parade is from 4 to 5 p.m. Tailgate parties are from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the high school parking lot. The homecoming game begins at 7 p.m. On Saturday, pictures for the homecoming dance will be taken at 8:30 p.m. The dance is from 9 to 11 p.m.
