Loretta Teton, 65, of Fort Hall passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.

Nicholas Ira Van Sickle, 57

January 25, 2011

Nicholas Ira Van Sickle, 57, a Wapello resident, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in Pocatello from causes due to cancer.
He was born Sept. 12, 1953, in Oakland, Calif., the son of Harold Dean Van Sickle and Florien Lauretha Misch Van Sickle.
He spent his grade school years in Jefferson, Iowa, and after moving a few times, ended his high school education graduating from Manteca High School in California. He also had some college education, specializing in paralegal training.

Local school receives $50,000

BLACKFOOT — The Lillian Vallely School received a large grant to fund a portion of the construction costs on a new building currently underway.
The Lillian Vallely School received $50,000 from the Gladys E. Langroise Advised Fund. The fund was established through a generous $15 million bequest to the Idaho Community Foundation from Boise philanthropist Gladys Langroise to support the health, education and welfare of children. Langroise died in early 2000, just prior to her 100th birthday.

Growing quickly: NDN Scholars program doubles

BLACKFOOT — A program providing tribal youth with academic support services and leadership development opportunities has doubled in size this year.
The NDN Scholars Program—short for Navigating and Developing Native Scholars—began last year as a pilot program aimed toward helping tribal youth reach their academic goals. This year, the program—which operates as part of Partners for Prosperity—received a Learn & Serve grant that allowed for the expansion of the program to focus on service learning. The grant also allows for a leadership conference to be held for all tribal youth in the area.
