Brake for Breakfast raises breast cancer awareness

BLACKFOOT — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Bingham Memorial Hospital was one of several regional hospitals that raised breast cancer awareness through the popular Brake for Breakfast event Wednesday morning.
Brake for Breakfast events raise awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection through regular mammograms and self-exams.
The hospital handed out 2,000 free cooler bags with breakfast along with literature and breast cancer awareness gifts to those who drove by the hospital Wednesday morning.

Heber Glen Bevan, 83

Heber Glen Bevan, 83, a Riverside resident, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at his home.
We as a family would like to thank the many wonderful people from Blackfoot Home Health and Hospice and Heartworks Connections who helped take care of our great grandfather, grandfather, father and husband in his last years.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Riverside LDS 2nd Ward with Bishop Brett Williams conducting.

Dean Watt, 94

Dean Watt, 94, of Omaha, Neb., and formerly of Blackfoot, passed away Sept. 28, 2011.
Dean was born on Sept. 1, 1917 in McCammon.
He graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in chemistry and received his doctorate in biochemistry from Iowa State University. In 1969 Dean began working at Creighton University. He taught biochemistry and did research on scorpion venom. He retired from teaching in 1989 but continued to do research until 2002.

Lady Bees edge Lady Broncos 4-3 on senior night

BLACKFOOT-The Blackfoot Lady Broncos faced off against the Bonneville Lady Bees, Tuesday night and fought hard but came up short by one point with the Bees taking the win 4-3.
As the Bees and the Broncos faced off , the wind became a factor leading to many close attempts by the Bees but Blackfoot’s goalie Caya Ballesteros had good saves. Bonneville was able to make a goal in the tenth minute of play and then followed that up two minutes later with another goal making the score 2-0 Bonneville.

Bees take top seed with 3-1 win over Broncos

IDAHO FALLS - The game was for all the marbles, well the regular season marbles anyway. Tuesday afternoon the Blackfoot Broncos traveled to the defending state champion Bonneville Bees for a match that would determine the regular season High Country Conference champion. In the end, the defending champs proved to be a tough out for the Broncos as they fell 3-1.

Date set for Miracle Half-mile

BLACKFOOT — Who is the fastest fifth grader in Bingham County? To find the answer, the Miracle 1/2 Mile will be run at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Blackfoot High School soccer field.
This race is open to all fifth graders in the county.
The event is free but people are asked to bring a donation or donations for the food bank, said organizer Brinton Jefferis.
Registration is on-site from 8—8:45 a.m. There are no early registrations.
Just show up on race day and fill out a parent permission form and waiver, Jefferis said.

Benefit dinner set for Blackfoot man

BLACKFOOT — A benefit dinner for Jerry Windous is scheduled at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1110 Parkway Dr., in Blackfoot, near Walmart.
Windous is suffering from cancer. He and his wife, Brenda, have no medical health insurance.
A lasagna dinner with salad, bread and dessert is being served. The suggested donation is $5 per person or $20 per family.
A silent auction is also scheduled.
"Bring an item and/or bid on one; all donations are welcome," said chair Bobette Brown. Kathy Tauscher is the other chair.

Blackfoot tennis players claim championships

MORNING NEWS
IDAHO FALLS – Blackfoot tennis players were few in number at the recent Jim Sailer Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament, but the young squad still made their presence known.
Dylan Fuller was the champion in Boys' 12 Singles while Baylee Gorder earned top honors in Girls' 12/14 Singles.
Daylan Bird won the consolation championship in Boys' 14 Singles while Jacob Harris won the consolation championship for the Boys' 16 Singles.

Score of 296 good for top spot in Blackfoot Golf Course closing social

BLACKFOOT — The team of Hal Nelson, Delynn Morgan, Skyler Young, Nancy Cushman and Mike Johnson won top honors at the Closing Social tournament at Blackfoot Golf Course on Saturday.
They shot a gross 296 to win the top prize by two strokes. Runnersup were Barrett Beck, Doneal Johns, James Carter, Cody Seamons and Brandon McNeil.

Blackfoot Boosters schedule 'Mash the Russets' tailgate party

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot High's football boosters will conduct a "Mash the Russets"-themed free tailgate party before the game with Shelley on Thursday.
Activities get underway at 5:30 p.m. in the stadium parking lot. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
This is the final regularly scheduled home game of the season and will feature Senior Night. In addition, members of the team and the coaching staff will wear pink shoelaces, wristbands and mouthguards in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
