FIRTH â The proposal of the Firth Cemetery District highlighted the October Firth School Board meeting last Thursday.
School trustees met in executive session to discuss the cemetery proposal. Coming out of executive session, no motion was made.
"The trustees are still thinking about," said Superintendent Sid Tubbs.
Board member Cheryse Hooste said the Firth Cemetery needs to expand.
"There are no more plots available to be purchased," Hooste said.
BLACKFOOT â Cass William Tendore appeared before District Judge Darren Simpson Monday to face charges of possession of a controlled substance--marijuana-- with intent to deliver and possession of meth.
On the first charge regarding marijuana, Tendore could face a maximum sentence of five years in the Idaho State Penitentiary and/or a $15,000 fine. He could also be required to pay the cost of prosecution and 100 hours of community service.
Norman James âPeteâ Atkins of Blackfoot passed away on Oct. 13, 2011 at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
He was born in Delta, Colo. in 1928 and grew up in Paonia, Colo. He was preceded in death by his father, James Perry, mother, Lura May and brother, Dale M. Atkins.
Pete has five children: Shannon Lamb, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Shelley Atkins, Arvada, Colo.; Dan Atkins, Bend, Ore.; Cindy Walsh (Joe) Groton, Conn. and Perrie Atkins, Blackfoot. He also has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Brenda Young, 54, of Pingree passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 in Soda Springs. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at the Pingree First Ward.
Family will visit with friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot and one hour prior to services at the Church. Burial will follow the services at the Springfield Cemetery.

BLACKFOOT â Tommy Vaughns Grill officially opens their doors today at 11 a.m. Located across from Jensen Grove the newest restaurant to Blackfoot offers a little something for everyone.
If you're looking for a great place to watch a game -- there are 18 bigscreen TV's throughout the restaurant, or if you want a nice place to enjoy a great meal they also offer that.
General Manager Tyler Rupe says I think people whether they are 1 or 80 will enjoy the atmosphere and have a great time.
Tyler entered this joint restaurant venture with his father, Kevin Rupe who also owns Rupes Burgers.
BLACKFOOT â The Bingham County United Way kickoff is from 5â7 p.m. Wednesday in the Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency (SEICCA), 1010 W. Bridge St., Blackfoot.
United Way is sponsoring the Chamber of Commerce After Hours, said kickoff chair person Diane Tauscher. After Hours is open to community members. Refreshments will be served.
Last year Bingham County raised $100,000, Tauscher said. United Way has been in Blackfoot for about 20 years.
Money raised, "goes to agencies in Bingham County," she said.

BLACKFOOT â Since the early 1980s, the voice of Country Music Legend Gary Morris has transcended season and setting. Saturday, that voice will treat fans of great music to âAn Evening With Gary Morrisâ. The concert will kick off the Fall/Winter concert series at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Morris, recording for Warner Brothers, MCA/Universal and Liberty records, produced five number one hits, including the widely popular âWind Beneath My Wings.â
The trip to Blackfoot is not Morrisâ first trip to Southeastern Idaho.
BLACKFOOT â The final hazing case involving five former Blackfoot High School athletes is now closed. Tuesday, Anthony Clarke signed a binding written plea agreement through his attorney. In this plea agreement, Clarke pled guilty to a misdemeanor disturbing the peace.
Magistrate Judge Charles Roos gave Clarke a withheld judgment and court probation for one year.
Under this plea agreement, Clarke was fined $500. He must pay court costs that total $137.50. Judge Roos suspended $500.
THOMAS â On Wednesday evening Snake River head coach Shelli VanOrden stated that her team was going to beat Bear Lake on Thursday evening because of the work that they got against the Beavers.
On Thursday, VanOrden's Panthers came out and proved their coach to be quite prophetic as they swept their biggest rivals 25-15, 25-15 and 25-18 much to the delight of the large crowd in attendance.
IDAHO FALLS â There's an old adage in sports that it is tough to beat a team three times in a season. On Thursday afternoon the Blackfoot soccer team proved that to be correct as they knocked off the defending 4A state champion Bonneville Bees in thrilling fashion as Carlos Flores knocked home the game winner five minutes into the sudden death overtime for the 2-1 victory.
