Gary Grant Secrist, a former Moreland resident, passed away at his home in Coon Rapids, Minn., after an 11-year battle with cancer on March 2, 2011.
Gary was the only child of Grant J. and B. Inez Secrist, born Nov. 10, 1936, in Logan, Utah.
He is survived by his wife Gayle of Coon Rapids, Minn.; a son Jeff (Jolene) Secrist of Moreland, and daughters Sue Ann (Jim) Summers of Ammon; Peggy Jo (Bret) Marston of Clearfield, Utah; Stacie (Dan) Rickard of St. Michael, Minn.; and Brianna (Pat) Juetten of Blaine, Minn.
Evelyn Belnap, 97, of Moreland, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011, at her home.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home and will be announced.
MERIDIAN â€“ The Snake River Panthers opened a double-digit lead and then held off a hard charging Kimberly squad for an opening round, 55-52 win at the State Basketball Championships in Meridian on Thursday afternoon.
â€śI thought that the rebounds and the fast break early in the game got us off to a good start,â€ť Snake River head coach Bob Coombs said. â€śOverall we did some nice things in tonightâ€™s ball game.â€ť
The Panthers came out of the gates with a high energy performance, collecting 21 rebounds in the first half, 9 of those on the offensive end as the Panthers built a 11-point bulge.
BLACKFOOT â€” Distinguished Young Women (DYW) candidates from Blackfoot read to students Thursday afternoon at Stoddard Elementary.
DYW asks candidates to do community service, said Blackfoot's DYW Hannah Miller.
"This reading roundup provides a habit of service," Miller said.
The library at Stoddard was filled with enthusiastic readers.
Annie Tanner, the VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) representative, said she organized the roundup reading challenge last September.
