Stoddard raises $2,000 in read-a-thon

May 19, 2011

BLACKFOOT — IT Stoddard Elementary Principal Ryan Wilson will do just about anything to support students and staff at his school. He has kissed a pig, taken a pie in the face and even danced in front of the students.
This past week he wore a tutu, crown and high heels after the students reached $2,000 in pledges in a fundraising challenge for a read-a-thon.
The fundraiser was organized by Stoddard's Parent-Teacher Organization.
The organizers of the fundraiser, Karen Robinson and Cara Fitzgerald, wanted to do something that gave the school and students 100 percent of the profit.

Relay for Life increasing online presence

May 19, 2011

BLACKFOOT — Online fundraising for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is increasingly popular as many take advantage of the ease of donating electronically.
Online fundraising is just getting started in Bingham County, but Sherrilynn Bair, who co-chairs the Relay for Life Online Committee with Shantel Morgan, said a few people have raised funds online using Facebook and email.
She said it's an easy way for those who can't participate in Relay—such as family members living out of town—to donate.
"They can't participate physically in Relay but they want to contribute," Bair said.
