Shelley Orchestra to perform at Disneyland

SHELLEY — Among items presented at the Shelley School Board Thursday night were "Pay for Performance," an orchestra trip scheduled for spring break 2012 and classified personnel receiving the same sick leave as certified personnel.
Superintendent Bryan Jolley discussed “Pay for Performance.”
“I’m going to discuss two points of this plan,” Jolley said.
There is a state side and a school, classroom, side to this proposal, he said.

Ridge Crest students celebrate reading

BLACKFOOT — Friday was a celebration for students at Ridge Crest Elementary Friday. The first through fifth grade students were rewarded for reading one million minutes this school year and for finishing strong on their Idaho Standard Achievement Test (ISAT).
The students had a Skype conference with author Debbie Dadey, who wrote "The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids" series, "The Swamp Monster in the Third Grade" and "The Worst name in Third Grade."

District 55 makes cuts to balance budget

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot School District officials have eliminated middle school sports and have cut eight teaching positions—among numerous other cuts—in an effort to meet a $2.072 million budget deficit for the 2011-2012 school year.
Those cuts were outlined in a memorandum to all district staff members from Superintendent Scott Crane Friday. The memo was sent out Friday after all personnel affected by the cuts had been notified.

Bingham County crowns two state champs on Friday

BOISE – Day two of the Idaho State Track and Field Championships wrapped up on Friday evening with the 5A and 4A finals being held in the evening at Bronco Stadium on the campus of Boise State University.
Blackfoot had just one athlete competing on Friday night with senior Dakota Mecham toeing the line in the 400 meter finals.
Starting in the lane five, Mecham had her work cut out for her as she tried to topple last years winner Ali Eisenbeiss of Bishop Kelly.
