BLACKFOOT — The City of Blackfoot intends to join an independent medical insurance cooperative among Idaho cities in an effort to control costs and rate increases.
The City Council voted Tuesday night to sign a three-year joint powers agreement with the Idaho Independent Intergovernmental Authority, a cooperative of numerous Idaho cities to create a self-funded medical insurance program. The council members will take the next week to review additional information about the program, and if there are no objections from the councilmen the agreement will be signed Aug. 10 by Mayor Mike Virtue.

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot Police arrested a California woman early Sunday after a traffic stop revealed she had 10 pounds of marijuana in her trunk.
BLACKFOOT — The Bingham County 4-H Fair opened Monday morning with farm animals and their handlers taking center stage.
The Jensen and Carpenter families took six of the 10 top awards in sheep showmanship.
In the intermediate class, Jacee Jensen was the champion; Ashley Carpenter was reserve champion. Jacee also was named the overall champion showman.
In the junior II class, Braxton Jensen was the champion; his cousin, Tanneyce Jensen was reserve champion.

BLACKFOOT — Confined to wheelchairs and unable to go many places, residents of the Bingham Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility could be left to watch television or to read.
But director of activities Lori Packer and assistants Chanel Quirk and Julie Wallace instead work to bring entertainment and other events to them.
"We just like to do things special for our residents," Packer said on Saturday as approximately 30 of them watched a performance from Danza Azteca Quetzalcoatl, a local troupe in native costume.
Leslie Owen Bailey, 65, of Blackfoot passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011, at
Portneuf Regional Medical Center in Pocatello after suffering a major heart attack.
Leslie was born Sept. 1, 1945, in Van Buren, Mo., to Ralph Roy Bailey and Margaret Helen Liebst Bailey. Leslie was raised in Van Buren and lived throughout Missouri until moving to Blackfoot in 2001.
On Nov. 10, 1967, Leslie married Shirley Faye Trammell in Randolph, Mo. Together they had seven children.
Mary Lou McLaughlin Jones, 104, was born Aug. 4, 1907, in Salt Lake City, Utah,
the daughter of Willard and Pricilla Rose Talbot McLaughlin. She was the fourth of six children.
The family moved to Pocatello where Mary attended schools.
She married Leonard Elmer Jones on June 19, 1924, in American Falls.Their
marriage was solemnized in The Salt Lake LDS Temple in March 1944.
Three children were born to this union, Mary Louise, Robert Leonard and Thomas Lorenzo.
Lawrence C. Bumgarner, 73, of Shelley, passed away July 28, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 7, 1938, at Shelley to Lawrence Howard Bumgarner and Annie Mae Beasley Bumgarner Olsen. He graduated from Shelley High School and LDS Seminary. He also took classes from LaSalle Extension University in accounting.
Larry joined the Idaho National Guard and served for eight years, leaving as staff sergeant. He also held positions of company supply sergeant and personnel sergeant.
BLACKFOOT – The "Rollin' for a Cause" fundraiser to benefit children living with juvenile diabetes in Bingham County started Saturday morning with bikes rollin' out and concluded later that evening with donations rollin' in.
As the roar of Harley engines could be heard coming up the road an emotional Susan Jensen said "I love that sound!"
"This is just awesome and amazing," said Jensen, co-organizer of Rollin' for a Cause. "I can't believe this many people showed up."
