FIRTH — Trustees of the Firth School Board have no interest in participating in a district consolidation study.
Superintendent Sid Tubbs noted that the State Office of Education will make $10,000 available to each district to pay for a study on consolidation. He noted the Blackfoot and Snake River districts have already indicated that they plan to participate in such a study.
THOMAS – Books are filling more than shelves at the Snake River School Community Library -- they are filling up Amazon Kindles.
The Library Board recently allotted technology funds to the purchase of 15 Kindles. The popular portable electronic device that stores books and other print publications is now available for patrons to check-out. The Kindles are now available for the public to check-out.

FORT HALL — Oklahoma cowboy Cord McCoy has been around the world twice as a contestant on the Amazing Race but on Wednesday evening, he was one of fifty professional bull riders who took to the Fort Hall rodeo arena in the first annual Wiley Petersen Invitational.
When the dust had settled a capacity crowd applauded McCoy as he stood triumphant after capturing an event that is sure to become a regular stop on the Professional Bull Riders tour.
ROCKFORD — The Taber fire burned 910 acres before it was contained at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The fire was reported at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday. It burned primarily in cheatgrass and sagebrush in the desert and lava beds west of 1900 West and 300 North, approximately 4 miles south of Taber and 17 miles west of Blackfoot.
The Bureau of Land Management sent four heavy engines, one light engine, two single engine air tankers, one hand crew, one helicopter and a bulldozer to the fire. They were assisted by the Blackfoot Fire Department.
BLACKFOOT — Registration for students in the Blackfoot School District will be Aug. 15-17. The first day of school is Aug. 24.
Lunch prices for the 2011-2012 school year will be $1.85 for elementary students, $2.10 for grades 6-12 and $3.10 for all adults. Reduced lunch price is 40 cents.
Breakfast prices are $1.20 for elementary students, $1.35 for grades 6-12 and $1.95 for adults. Reduced breakfast price is 30 cents.
August 10th
John Paul Orr, 65, of Firth passed away Aug. 6, 2011, at his home after fighting melanoma for 15 years.
Memorial Services will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at Calvary Chapel, 4250 South 25th East, Idaho Falls, with Crockett Stearns officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road.
Joan Phyllis Becker, 81, of San Jose, Calif., a former Firth resident, passed away Aug. 6, 2011 in San Jose.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery.

BLACKFOOT – It's the chance of a lifetime. Three professional Broadway actors will conduct a 3-day workshop culminating in a public performance Aug. 20. The entire event, "Broadway Lights Up Blackfoot" is a fundraiser organized by the Blackfoot High School Class of 1968 to purchase a new digital display marquee for the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center and BHS.

ROCKFORD — A fire west of Blackfoot burned 688 acres and was 50 percent contained by 8 p.m. Tuesday night, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
The fire, named the Taber Fire, was reported about 3 p.m. Tuesday at 1900 West 300 North approximately 4 miles south of Taber and 17 miles west of Blackfoot. The fire was primarily burning in the desert and lava flows but was adjacent to a hay field. There had been no reports of loss or damage due to the fire as of Tuesday evening.
