Paul Raymond Berggren, 77

September 21, 2011

Paul Raymond Berggren, 77, of Blackfoot passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. 
Paul was born Dec. 25, 1933, in Blackfoot to Robert Berggren and Myrtle Sunquist Berggren. He attended Lavaside Grade School and graduated from Firth High School in 1951.
On Sept. 17, 1957 Paul married Patricia McNutt. Together they had two children, Robert and Carol. Patricia preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 1997. On Aug. 14, 1999, he married Francisca Barbosa in Twin Falls. 
Paul was a member of the Firth Tabernacle Assembly of God Church in Firth. 

Cathy Ellen (Nii) Warren, 58

On Sept. 18, 2011, Cathy Ellen (Nii) Warren, of Boise, began her journey to Heaven after a brief but furious battle with gall bladder cancer.
Cathy was born on May 16, 1953 in Idaho Falls to Tsuneo and Amy Nii, the first of six children. She was raised on her family’s farm near Pingree and graduated from Snake River High School in 1971. She completed her formal education by earning an Associate Degree from Ricks College in Rexburg.

Clint J. Mecham, 23

Clint J. Mecham, 23, of Pingree passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, in Arbon Valley from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Clint was born Aug.8,1988 in Blackfoot to Dayle N. and Kathleen Amy Hanson Mecham.  He spent his lifetime in Pingree, other than a couple years when he attended college at Idaho State University in Pocatello. He attended grade school in Pingree and Rockford and graduated from Snake River High School in 2006.  He had been studying Geology at ISU.

Randy Rodriguez Jr., infant

Randy Rodriguez Jr., 3-day-old infant son of Randy Rodriguez and Analicia Contrearas, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Bingham Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.

Palmer sentenced in Ponzi scheme

POCATELLO – An Eastern Idaho man who pleaded guilty to running a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme was sentenced to eight years in federal prison Tuesday.
Daren Palmer, 42, formerly of Idaho Falls, was sentenced for his role in a Ponzi investment scheme in which investors lost over $29 million, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson said.

City Council eliminates residency requirement for department heads

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot City Council eliminated a section of its personnel policy that requires all department heads to live within the city limits. The decision was made at the City Council meeting Tuesday night.
The policy, which required all new appointed department heads to live within the city limits or move within the city limits within six months of hire, was eliminated. The section of the policy requiring all on-call city employees to live within five miles of the city limits remains. This applies to police, fire and certain water, sewer and street personnel.

Snake River Storytime delights children

THOMAS — One hundred fifteen youngsters, ages 2 to 6, and their parents attend Storytime each week at the Snake River School Community Library.
Storytime is at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each Tuesday and Wednesday and at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Miss Peggy, aka Peggy Hansen, and Miss Mindy, aka, Mindy Baldwin are the Storytime teachers.
Miss Peggy starts each Storytime with a nursery rhyme.
"Reading success for children increases if they know nursery rhymes," she said.

Two teens die in Interstate 15 collision

BLACKFOOT — A two-vehicle accident on Interstate 15 Tuesday afternoon left two local teenagers dead.
According to Idaho State Police, Micah Story, 17, of Chubbuck, was traveling northbound on Interstate 15 at milepost 83 at 3:05 p.m. in a 2002 Ford Mustang. Jacob Colbo, 18, of Blackfoot, was a passenger in Story's vehicle.
