Garth Lee, 82, of Blackfoot passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011. at his home in Moreland.
Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at the Hawker Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
Family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the Funeral Home.

Mary Louise Chapman, 91

September 6, 2011

Mary Louise Chapman, formerly of Blackfoot, passed away on June 20, 2011, with her family at her side. She will be remembered as a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Mary Louise and Lorna Faye Morse were born on Sept. 8,
1919, in Cedar Hill, Idaho. During their formative years, the twins were inseparable. Being a twin was very special to both of them and they cherished their special relationship throughout their lives.

Youngsters show off driving skills

BLACKFOOT — Nine-year-old drivers of Shire and Belgian draft horses competed Monday morning at the Eastern Idaho State Fair (EISF).
Kirsten Barney, age 9, won first place driving two Shires. Zoey Olaveson, age 9, won second place driving two Belgians.
The girls put the draft horses through their paces. On command, they put the horses into a trot, walked them, turned them a different direction and backed them up.
Kirsten said this was the second time she has driven the team.
"She rides horses so she knows how to handle them," her mom said.

KUPI Texaco Country Showdown tonight

BLACKFOOT — Lyle Albertson and his Strait Country Band will perform as the backup band for the local winners of the KUPI Texaco Country Showdown from 7—8:30 p.m. tonight on the West Events Free Stage at the Eastern Idaho State Fair (EISF).
Albertson and his band have been performing up and down the valley and in surrounding states "for about a hundred years," he said.
Albertson and his band have produced three cd's—"Cowboys Like Us," "Just for Friends," and "My Own Stuff," that is made up of Albertson's original songs.

Special exhibit features Grandma's kitchen

BLACKFOOT – The antique department at the Eastern Idaho State Fair invites everyone to view the impressive array of Depression era shakers and canisters in an exhibit honoring the kitchen of the Depression era.
The display features hundreds of items from John Warren's personal collection.
Warren, the exhibit coordinator, has been collecting items for years and says he is happy to have a venue where they can be viewed and shared with others.

Plenty of poultry on display at Fair

BLACKFOOT — The variety of chickens that were exhibited in the showmanship class at the Eastern Idaho State Fair almost equaled the number of participants.
Chickens that were shown included two Rhode Island Reds, an Americana, an Easter Egger, Black Polish and Creole Old English.
The breeds of chickens were developed in different regions of the country, Judge Jim Adkins said. Thirteen different breeds have been developed in the U.S.
He then asked the two showing Rhode Island Reds for a little history.
