Archie LaMar Mecham, 86, of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at his home from the effects of a stroke.
Archie was born Nov.18, 1924, in Ogden, Utah, to Melvin and Rozella May Pritchett Mecham. He grew up in the Groveland-Rose area and graduated from Blackfoot High School and LDS Seminary on May of 1942.
During his senior year he met Marjorie Denney at MIA in the Groveland Ward. In November 1944 he was drafted into the Army. After basic training, he married his sweetheart, Marjorie, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 30, 1945.Â
Paul Joseph Happel, Jr., 71, of Blackfoot passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 in Pocatello at the Ridge Wind Assisted Living after a long illness.
Paul was born in New London, Conn., on March 20, 1940, to Paul Joseph Happel Sr. and Bessie Ann Doherty Happel.
The family lived in Mystic, Conn., and Paul attended school there until the family moved to Blackfoot for Paul Sr. who worked for Electric Boat. Paul attended schools in the Blackfoot area. The family returned to Connecticut and then back to Blackfoot where Paul Sr. worked for Westinghouse Electric NRF and the INEL.
SHELLEY — There were plenty of scoring opportunities during the Blackfoot and Shelley boys soccer game on Thursday afternoon. In the end, Blackfoot converted a pair of those chances to remain unbeaten on the season with a 2-0 win on the Russets home field.
"Some time you get three chances and you score on all three and other times you get fifteen chances and you score one, it's just how the game goes," Blackfoot head coach Liam Pope said.
SHELLEY — With the game tied at 1-1, late in the second half of Shelley and Blackfoot's conference tilt on the Lady Russets home field, Shelley's Megan Jensen pulled out her sand wedge and then lofted a perfect shot over the Blackfoot goal keeper for the eventual game winner.

Raymond Jensen, 87, of Blackfoot passed peacefully away on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 with his home caretaker, Nita Teton, by his side at his home in Wapello.
Marley Lynn Fackrell, 86, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, Aug, 30, 2011 at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot.
Marley was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Pingree to Robert Lynn and Coral Leone Marley Fackrell.Â
He spent his early years in Pingree and Riverside and moved to Arimo when his father bought a store. Arimo is where he met his sweetheart, Ezma B. Welch, when they were seventh graders.Â
After graduating from Arimo High School in 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was a tailgunner on a B-17. He always said that they ended the war when they heard he was coming.Â
BLACKFOOT – Youth from the Blackfoot LDS Stake hit their neighborhoods Tuesday night on a scavenger hunt and food drive. Their efforts resulted in approximately 7,000 items that were donated to the Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency (SEICAA).
Blackfoot High School senior Lindsay Turpin began organizing the activity for a youth conference originally scheduled for June. However, due to the flood risk in Bingham County youth filled sandbags for their service project.
BLACKFOOT — Bingham County commissioners elected to send solid waste generated in Bingham County to the Bannock County Landfill this week. The tipping cost to haul to Bannock is $26 per ton. The contract is for the next five years.
The previous week the commissioners had received non-qualifying bids for the service. The county did not ask for specific parameters, so there was lots of information to consider, Commission chairman Cleone Jolley said.
