SPOKANE, Wash. â€” Betty M Peterson, 89, graduated from life while surrounded by people who loved her on Jan. 26, 2011.
She was born Beth Monk on May 2, 1921 in Plano, Idaho, into the loving family of Fredrick Lloyd and Charlotte Grace (Laswell) Monk and big sister Clarice. Her early years where filled with life on a farm, graduating from high school in Blackfoot and sailing through cosmetology school in Pocatello.
ABERDEEN â€” On Monday Arthur Vailas, president of Idaho State University, praised the people of Aberdeen for what they and their forebears have built.
Speaking at the annual Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce dinner, Vailas said, "education is what provided opportunity. Education is the greatest gift that you can give humanity."
He noted that those who built Aberdeen recognized that and ensured that their children would be educated.
"The greatest thing is where people are able to work as a collective," he said. "When you do, you will advance your mission of good will.
FORT HALL - Tamara Pocatello, 40, passed away at a local facility. Traditional Native American viewing and visitation will be held at the Racehorse-Robles residence on East Ballard Road and Highway 91 at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 31. A funeral service will be held at the same location at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, and burial in the Cedar Cemetery on Reservation Road will follow. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the family.
FIRTH â€“ Twelve Boy Scout troops from Shelley and Firth and one Order of the Arrow troop participated in an overnight campout and Klondike Derby Friday and Saturday at the river bottoms in Firth.
The number of Scouts, leaders and staff camping overnight totaled 103.
Most of the Scouts said their favorite activity of the campout was the sled race, also known as the Klondike Derby.
BLACKFOOT â€” The Blackfoot High School Choir Department will be presenting their popular Renaissance Feast Feb. 3, 4 and 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center.
"The More the Merrier" Renaissance Fair includes dinner and an entertaining night of music and theatre.
The meal will include roasted chicken breast, mashed red potatoes, roasted vegetables and dessert.
THOMAS â€” The chant went up from a young group of awestruck Panther fans early in the fourth quarter of Snake Rivers 52-33 conference win over Marsh Valley on Friday night.
"Junior Jimmer!" they chanted as Candon Watt stepped back and cooly drilled his fourth trey of the night for 3 of his game high 25.
Betty Lee Anthony, 82, of Firth, Idaho passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at her home in Firth.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Kimball Ward LDS Church with Bishop Boyd Petersen conducting.
The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Hawker Funeral Home and again for one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will be in the Firth Cemetery.

Dennis Myron Park, 65, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Renaissance Assisted Living in Blackfoot.
He was born June 29, 1945 in Blackfoot, Idaho the son of Myron Earl Park and Orva LaRee Lilya.
He graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1963.Â He then attended Ricks College for 2 years and for a short time at Utah State University.
Dennis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a Spanish speaking mission in Fresno, California from1966-1968. His father passed away while he was serving a mission.
Mary Buckland, 91, of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Idaho Falls Care and Rehab.
She was born November 21, 1919 in Blackfoot, Idaho the daughter of Harry Hamilton and Bertha Marriott.Â Her youth was spent with summers on the ranch in Springfield and the school year in the Blackfoot until American Falls Dam took the ranch.
Mary lived in the Blackfoot area most of her life and received her education in Blackfoot, graduating from Blackfoot High School in 1937.
BLACKFOOT â€” The Blackfoot School Board of Trustees received the results of an audit of the districtâ€™s bullying and harassment policies and administrative procedures during their regular meeting Thursday night.
