BLACKFOOT â The Bingham County Courthouse was placed on lockdown for four hours Friday afternoon after an envelope containing a white powder-like substance was discovered in the Treasurer's Office. A regional hazmat team was called in to handle and test the substance, which has not been identified.
BLACKFOOT â The lockdown at the Bingham County Courthouse was lifted after a four hour wait Friday afternoon.
The lockdown was initiated at noon Friday after a white substance was discovered in an envelope received by the Treasurer's Office. The substance remains unidentified but testing conducted by the Region Six Hazardous Materials Response Team determined that it was not a biological or chemical threat.
Those inside the courthouseâan estimated 300 people including employees and citizensâwere allowed to leave at 4 p.m.
The Hazmat team has suited up. Wet decontamination is ready to go. They should begin preliminary testing soon.

Update 3:45 p.m.: The courthouse remains on lockdown. The regional hazmat team from Pocatello has suited up and is running a battery of test on the substance outside the courthouse.
BLACKFOOT â An evidentiary hearing for Nathan Anthony Walker, age 20, is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7. He is charged with a probation violation.
The alleged violation is being a minor in possession of alcohol on Dec. 22.
Defense attorney,Stephen Blaser requested Walkerâs evidentiary hearing be set during Walkerâs spring break. He is attending Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Ore.
Seventh District Magistrate Judge Charles Roos agreed to set the hearing in early March.
VeraThurman, 89, of Blackfoot passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at her home.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.      Â
Zelma âBettyâ Wheeler Eubanks, 92, of Blackfoot passed away Wednesday, Jan.
11, 2012 at The Willows in Blackfoot.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.

BLACKFOOT â As Stefano Bronzati, a Salt Lake City businessman, stood amid the debris in the former Winger's Restaurant in Blackfoot earlier this week, he discussed the future of the building.
"This is completely different than it was before," he said of what will become the prototype for Winger's Express.
"When you walk in, you come and order at the counter," Bronzati added. He said Winger's Express will be similar to quick service restaurants such as Cafe Rio, Rumbi Island Grill and Five Guys Burgers and Fries. All food will be cooked to order.
