Broncos complete season sweep of Panthers

THOMAS — The Blackfoot Broncos and the Snake River Panthers locked horns for the final time in 2012 as the two squads met in front of a packed house at Snake River High School with Blackfoot looking for the season sweep of the season while Snake River were looking to hold home court.
Alonzo Ramos poured in 20 points and McKye Watt added 16 as the Broncos completed the sweep with a convincing 57-40 victory in a game that many expected to be much closer.

Lady Panthers complete season sweep of Lady Broncos

BLACKFOOT — In their first match up the season the Snake River Panthers and the Blackfoot Lady Broncos battled to a double overtime thriller with the Lady Panthers prevailing on their home court.
On Thursday evening at Blackfoot High School, there was no such drama as the Lady Panthers built a first half double digit lead and then cruised home from there with a 50-28 victory.

Panther grapplers sweep Vikings/Savages

Moreland – The three way match up between Snake River, Challis and Salmon took place Thursday night at Snake River High School. Snake River started the night with a couple of JV matches that ended in wins (Ty Jensen and Jordan Campau) against the Salmon team. The Varsity matches started with SR and Challis wrestling each other at the 98 pound weight with Treyton Nilsson taking on Joshua D’Orazio. Treyton quickly took the upper hand taking down Joshua and putting him in a leg hold and pinning him in the 1st round with only 8 seconds left.

City installs new indoor lighting to save money

The City of Blackfoot will save up to $2,000 a year with the installation of full-spectrum energy efficient Vitalux lights throughout city offices.
Steve Allen of Blackfoot, a lighting specialist for Maintenance Engineering, sells and installs the lighting with an incentive from Idaho Power to pay 50 percent of implementation and the electric bill.

Board members offer justification for Crane payout

In front of a packed house, and under intense pressure from an angry public (some even asking for the board's resignation), Blackfoot school board members offered some, but not all, of the details as to why they chose to pay former superintendent Scott Crane $220,000 in a separation agreement and hiding it from the public.

Indians beat Broncos 61-60 in OT

POCATELLO — Easton Ralphs hit the go ahead basket with 0:08 remaining in overtime and Blackfoot's last second shot attempt was blocked as time expired as the Pocatello Indians held off a game effort from the Blackfoot Broncos with a 61-60 overtime win at Pocatello High School on Wednesday evening.
"We had our opportunities to win this game," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "This was a learning game. If we get in this situation again we will know better what to do that's for sure."

Local woman wins $5,000 in bank contest

Imagine, a few days before Christmas, you go to work like any other day, and your banker shows up at your office and surprises you with a $5,000 check. That's exactly what happened to Elizabeth Ramirez of Blackfoot at 10 a.m. Wednesday; it wasn't a joke and she wasn't dreaming.

SR board member resigns

About 30 people attended the December school board meeting at the Snake River Junior High School Wednesday.
Trustee Julie Van Orden resigned from the Snake River School Board, effective Jan. 1, 2013. She has served the school district 10 years. She represents Zone 1, the Pingree West Rockford Zone.
"We are one of the most respected boards in the state," Van Orden said.
Last November, Van Orden was elected to the Idaho Legislature. She will represent Bingham County.

Woodrow W. Butler, 94

December 19, 2012

Woodrow W. Butler, 94, of Blackfoot passed away peacefully in his sleep, Dec. 16, 2012 at his home.
He was born Sept. 17, 1918 in Idaho Falls to Ralph Francis and Carrie Lenore Beckley Butler.  He was the middle child of 15 children, 14 of whom lived to maturity.
He was raised on a homestead in the Bone-Willow Creek area of  Bingham County.  He attended school through the third grade in that area.  After the school district closed there,  the family moved to Idaho Falls for school in the fall and later bought a small place in Blackfoot where he attended school through tenth grade.

Daliah Karen Uribe Teton, 52

 Daliah Karen Uribe Teton, 52 passed away Dec. 14th, 2012, Daliah was Born Sept. 22, 1960 to the Sam & Edith George Uribe in Blackfoot, Idaho. She Married Lloyd Preacher Sr. and they had 1 son, Lloyd Preacher JR. They were later divorced. She remarried Woodrow ‘Woody’ Teton, they had two sons, Colton Reese Teton and Brisco Bailey Teton.
