THOMAS – Elementary teachers from Southeastern Idaho spent Saturday attending an Invent Idaho workshop. Teachers were from Snake River, Shelley, the Idaho Science and Technology Charter School (ISTCS) and Pocatello.
The workshop is designed to help students “think outside the box.”
“As teachers, we try to inspire creative thinking as a springboard to inventive thinking,” presenter Beth Brubaker said. “The first thing we teach kids is problem finding.”
Editor's Note: The woman in this story requested that we only use her first name.
BLACKFOOT — "I just couldn't watch her drown. There was an overwhelming feeling that I needed to do something now."
That's why Ann went against everything she has been taught about the ice.
On Nov. 29 she went to Jensen Grove with her three schnauzers to feed some leftover popcorn to the ducks. Two of the dogs were on a leash with the third allowed to roam.
"I let the one that usually minds the best just run free," she said.
She came to regret that decision.

THOMAS — The Snake River Panthers got 17 points from senior guard Shane Parkinson and the defense turned in a dominating performance as the Panthers locked down the Aberdeen Tigers 61-28 on Friday evening.
BLACKFOOT — An envelope containing a tax payment and a white crystalline substance set off a four-hour lockdown Friday afternoon at the Bingham County Courthouse.
The substance was discovered sometime mid-morning Friday, prompting the lockdown at noon. The Region Six Hazardous Materials Response Team was called in to assist with handling and testing the substance.
FIRTH – Firth High School will have a girls’ soccer team next fall.
Firth trustees unanimously approved the addition of girls’ soccer to the fall sports on a two-year trial basis.
Speaking to the board members, Firth patrons Neal Yancey and Paul Jensen said they would take care of all expenses for a two-year trial program.
A two-year trial will determine the cost and the impact on other teams, Yancey said.

BLACKFOOT – The lockdown at the Bingham County Courthouse was lifted after a four hour wait Friday afternoon.
The lockdown was initiated at noon Friday after a white substance was discovered in an envelope received by the Treasurer's Office. The substance remains unidentified but testing conducted by the Region Six Hazardous Materials Response Team determined that it was not a biological or chemical threat.
Those inside the courthouse—an estimated 300 people including employees and citizens—were allowed to leave at 4 p.m.
The Hazmat team has suited up. Wet decontamination is ready to go. They should begin preliminary testing soon.
