BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Broncos opened the home portion of their 2012 schedule on Friday afternoon as they swept an abbreviated double header with Century by winning game one 6-0 and then followed that up with a 2-1, three inning win in the night cap.
"The pitchers came out and did a great job of hitting their spots tonight," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said. "We talked about starting ahead and they each did just that which was a big key for us today."
BLACKFOOT — Jacob Harris of Troop 235 knew what he wanted to do for his Eagle Scout project.
"I wanted to do something for kids," he said.
He found the ideal project when Neils and Susan Anderson, who are serving an LDS Church mission in Guam, told him the school children needed books.
So, with the help of family, friends and some fellow Scouts, he began collecting books. "I wanted children's books, but I got some young adult books for older kids."
Those books came from collection boxes at the Morning News, the Blackfoot City Library and the Snake River Library.
BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot High School's state championship We The People competition government team showed about 35 community members its skills on Thursday.
Fourteen of the 16 students who have qualified for the national competition in Washington, D.C., next month answered questions about the U.S. Constitution from a panel of judges including Mayor Mike Virtue, assistant prosecuting attorney Mark Cornelison and Independence Alternative High School teacher Dan Grimes.
