Preston - Beth Christiansen Olsen

PRESTON — Beth Christiansen Olsen was born March 12, 1925 near Moreland. Beth was the third of nine children born to  Gerald Christiansen and Florence Wheeler Christiansen.  Beth  loved growing up on the family farm and delighted in her father telling her brothers that she was his best worker.  Beth attended Moreland schools and was the valedictorian of the Moreland High School Class of 1943.

BLACKFOOT — After nearly two hours in executive session on Tuesday, members of the Blackfoot School District board of trustees returned to open session long enough for vice chairman Peter A. Lipovac to admit he did not have permission of the full board to attend an Indian education conference last year.
His attendance at that conference, without permission of the board, is at the crux of a recall petition which has been certified by Bingham County director of elections Marlene Jensen.

STABBING: March 1, 1:38 a.m.: A caller said a male has been stabbed in the neck. An arrest was made.

HOSTAGE SITUATION: March 1, 2:41 p.m.: A woman said a man is refusing to return her vehicle and the parts. She said he got into her face and yelled at her that he was going to "hold her truck hostage."

GAS THEFT: March 1, 7:10 p.m.: A caller at White Eagle reported a vehicle leaving without paying for $35.40 in gas.

Oaklie Rose Oler, infant

Oaklie Rose Oler, was silently delivered into her parents' arms on Saturday, March 10, 2012. Marcus and Shylo Oler reverently returned their precious angel into her Heavenly Father’s loving arms.
Oaklie Rose is loved by her parents Darrell Marcus and Shylo Rose Jensen Oler of Blackfoot, Grandparents, Darrell “Buck” and Cindy Oler, Kenny and Denise Jensen, both of Blackfoot, great grandparents E. “Bud” and Janice Jensen and Richard Dee and Rosemary Sandau, all of Blackfoot.
Oaklie Rose was preceded in death by great grandparents, Darrell and Lillian Oler and Arlie and Bonnie Hebdon.

Clair E. Blaser, 88

Clair E. Blaser, 88, of Rexburg, died at home Friday, March 9, 2012.
He was born March 23, 1923, in Plano, Idaho, to Margaret and Ernest Blaser, the eldest son and fourth child in family of eight children. He attended school at Edmunds and graduated from Edmunds High School and then from Ricks College in 1942.
It was at Ricks that he met his lifelong sweetheart, Rosemary Polson of Shelley. He served three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and while on leave, he and Rosemary were married in the Logan, Utah, LDS temple Nov 9, 1945.

Exchange families receive presidential award

Two Bingham County families recently President's Volunteer Service Awards for their part in hosting exchange students this year.
Glenn and Shannon Thomson and Tom and Donna Bevan and their families welcomed three high school students into their homes for the 2011-2012 school year.
Pernille Andersen of Denmark and Fanny Winqvist of Sweden and Stephanie Moyaert of Belguim are all seniors at Snake River High School. Andersen and Winqvist live with the Thomsons while Moyaert lives with the Bevans.
Moyaert said she learned of the Pax Academic Exchange program through her English teacher.

Computer glitch takes away Blackfoot's state debate title

Last weekend, Blackfoot High School debate students were elated after they claimed the first place title at the 2012 State Debate tournament.
Now, however, Blackfoot must give the first place banner and trophy to another team because of a computer glitch.

Bernard Eschief, 72

March 12, 2012

Bernard Eschief, a Shoshone and Bannock tribal member and Pima Indian, 72, of Fort Hall passed away March 9, 2012 at his home with his family around him.
He was born July 1, 1939 in Blackfoot, the son of Barny and Cecelia Cosgrove Eschief.
Bernard attended the St. Margaret’s Parochial School and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1957. He also attended Notre Dame and Idaho State University.
Bernard married Elberta Truchot on Jan. 9, 1962 in Elko, Nev.

Elva Aldina Berggren, 92

Elva Aldina Berggren, 92, of Blackfoot passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at her home.
She was born Nov. 29, 1919 in Cheraw, Colo., to Harold Brewster Wadleigh and Olive Joyce Basinger Wadleigh.
Elva attended schools in various towns in Colorado. She moved to Idaho in the late 1930's, working in the fruit orchards. Her family followed the fruit harvest to several locations in Idaho, but also lived in several locations in Oregon, including Vale, Gresham, and Portland. She had lived in the Lavaside, Idaho area since 1999.
