SHELLEY — Colby Pearson threw a no hitter on Friday afternoon and the Blackfoot Broncos erupted for 14 runs in support of the pitching gem as the broncos downed the Shelley Russets 14-0 in six innings.
"In Thursday nights game Colby wanted the ball and today he came out focused and ready to go which I knew he would," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said. "He is such a competitor and to be one pitch away from a perfect game and to throw a no hitter is hard to do on any level so hats off to him."
BLACKFOOT — Ladd Carter, county commission incumbent representing District Three, understands that opposition keeps elected officials on their toes.
"Our ability to challenge our leaders makes it the best system of government on earth," Carter said. "It's good to have a test. I would be honored to serve the citizens of Bingham County if reelected.
All nine county commissioner candidates participated in the forum sponsored by the Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce Thursday evening. About 100 people attended.
BLACKFOOT-Coleen Gregory and Sonja Wright use their own time every Thursday to work at the Salon doing hair for residents of the nursing home at BMH. Wright said, "I enjoy the people. A woman always feels better when they look nice. It doesn't matter how old you are." Wright has been a volunteer since 1990. Gregory said, "the ladies are so gracious about getting their hair done. It makes them feel better." Gregory has been volunteering since 1989 and would like to hang up her hair dryer but is concerned that no one will be there to take her place.
FORT HALL — The Blackfoot School District No. 55 board of trustees hired Chad Struhs as interim superintendent during its meeting on Thursday.
Struhs is currently assistant superintendent. His hiring will allow the board to conduct a search for a replacement for Scott Crane. Crane announced his retirement effective at the end of the school year.
"When he leaves, I'll step in," Struhs said.
Struhs has been assistant superintendent in the Blackfoot School District for the past five years. He spent seven years as superintendent in Aberdeen and in Cordova, Alaska.
