Trustees to clean roadway

April 9, 2012

Bingham County Sheriff Dave Johnson announced Monday the clean-up of both sides of the road from U. S. 91 east to the Rattlesnake dumpsite.
The clean-up will occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the next two Saturdays, April 14 and April 21.
Trustees from the Bingham County jail and people who would like to work off some of their probation time will be doing the clean-up.
"We encourage people to tarp their loads as the loads are moved to Rattlesnake," Sheriff Johnson said. "People are losing too much material as it is moved from house to Wolverine.

Shelley's Richardson claims DYW crown

McKayla Richardson from Shelley was named the 2013 Distinguished Young Women (DYW) of Firth/Shelley Saturday night. First Alternate is Tristan Hillman from Firth; Second Alternate is Lexa Hansen from Shelley.
Completing the field of 11 were Shateal Murphy, Ashley Killpack, McCall Williams, Selena Garcia, Carissa Jolley, Milly Fielding, Michelle Tucker and Tabatha Jolley. This was the first year students from Firth and Shelley high schools participated together. 

Kids enjoy successful hunt

The sun shone brightly for the Easter egg hunt at Jensen Grove on Saturday in stark contrast to the snow that lay on the grass the day before. Hundreds attended the activity hosted by the Blackfoot Community Center and the Blackfoot Chamber of Comerce.
Brightly colored eggs littered the taped off areas of the Grove. The Blackfoot Fire Department signaled its start and hundreds of children clamored for their prizes. Dainian Martinez, only 4 years old, could barely stand the anticipation of waiting. His mother, Suzette noted how excited he was.

Russets ten run Idaho Falls JV 15-5

SHELLEY — Even though there was a slight chill outside, there was a heated game when the Shelley Russets baseball team hosted the Idaho Falls Tigers Saturday morning.
Shelley got the better end of a ten run rule win as the Russets walked off with the 15-5 win, before the bottom of the sixth inning was finished.

Broncos split double dip with Grizzlies

BLACKFOOT — Coming off of an eight day lay off due to Spring Break the Blackfoot Broncos returned to the diamond on Saturday afternoon for a double dip against 5A Skyline.
At the end of the day, the two teams split the twin bill with Blackfoot winning game one 3-1 and Skyline downing the Broncos 10-3 in the nightcap.

Blackfoot police seek public's help

Blackfoot police are asking the public to call their department with information regarding BB shots that were fired into vehicle windows over the past couple of weeks. Call 785-1235.
The damage has been done in the dark hours of night, Lt. Scott Gay said. The windows damaged on vehicles were on the side of the vehicle facing the road.
Two juveniles have also been arrested and charged with gang- related graffiti that appeared on buildings in Blackfoot Wednesday night and Thursday morning, Gay said. Fifteen or 16 incidents have been reported.

Former Blackfoot janitor sentenced

The judge in the case of former Blackfoot High School janitor Joshua Michael Jenkins retained jurisdiction for 365 days to give Jenkins an opportunity to "get you the help you need,on Friday." Senior Judge Peter D. McDermott told Jenkins, age 37, from Chubbuck, he must apply to a substance abuse or mental health program.
"We are offering you services and structure," Judge McDermott said.
"Probation is not appropriate in this case," the judge said. "If you succeed in completing this program, you can be brought back here to be put on probation."

WIND SPRINTS: March 24, 6:52 p.m.: A caller said two small girls are running back and forth in the area. They are about three-years-old.

$1,000: March 25, 11:18 a.m.: A man said someone broke into his house on Friday. He said he doesn't think anything of his is missing but his roommate is missing $1,000.

BAD NEIGHBOR: March 25, 12:51 p.m.: A woman at Sunset Manor said her neighbor threw her garbage can and kicked it. She said her door was open and she told him not to come in and he came in anyway and stood by the fridge.

Grove City Gardens

BLACKFOOT – Idaho farmers and gardeners will always tell you the weather is their boss, but Richard Johnson, owner of Grove City Gardens in Blackfoot, recently invested in a new greenhouse and high tunnels that he hopes will significantly extend their normal growing season and show Mother Nature a better way.
“It seems like so much depends on the weather,” said Johnson. “I expect this to add an extra two months to the front end of our growing season and another two months on the back end.”

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Our Loving Mother, Wife, NeNe, Sister, Aunt and Friend returned to the loving arms of Our Heavenly Father on March 29, 2012 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. We are so grateful to have such a great example of love, compassion, patience and faith that she was to us.
