Blackfoot opens legion season with sweep of Rebels

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot American Legion baseball squad opened their 2012 campaign on Thursday evening as they welcomed the Pocatello Rebels to Blackfoot High School.
Last season, the Rebels swept the Broncos but Blackfoot turned the tables on the team from down south as they picked up a pair of wins 9-3 in game one and 12-11 in the night cap.

Retiree late for his own party

He may have been fashionably late for his own retirement party, but Ken Saunders was never late for work (in over 30 for years) for a job that he loved - working for the Bingham County Road and Bridge Department.
Saunders said he made the decision to retire at this time "to give someone else the opportunity to have what he had."

Students play with their food creatively

While your mother may tell you 'not to play with your food,' that rule went out that window as students from Snake River Middle School (SRMS) made 'fruit and veggie-mobiles' with the intention of racing them down a ramp and smashing them into a juicy mess at Jensen Grove Thursday afternoon.
It was all part of the 'last day of school' celebration put on by SRMS teachers Lisa Martin, Jill Munson, Suzanne Hieb, Susan Shawver, Sydnee Hale and Carol Adams.

Police investigating allegations of BMH wrongdoing

Blackfoot Police Chief Dave Moore confirmed Thursday that his department is looking into allegations on the criminal side against Bingham Memorial Hospital.
“We met with the prosecuting attorney this morning [Thursday] asking for direction,” said Moore, “whether we should continue the investigation or not.
“The prosecutor told us to continue moving forward,” he said, “so we are in an ongoing investigation.  
“We hope to sort out allegations cited by former employees about business practices at the hospital to determine if anything happened or if it didn’t happen,” said Moore.

Henry Glade Wilcox, 58

Henry Glade Wilcox, born Nov. 21, 1953, age 58, of Aberdeen passed away May 27, 2012 at his home from a lengthy illness.
Henry was preceded in death by a baby sister, Beverley Ann, and his father, Arden J. Wilcox. He is survived by his mother Betty Jane, brother Nolan (Linda), sister Emma Sue, brother Forrest (Bonnie), sister Cindy Cordell, many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends, Nyle Thornley, Al Littlefield, and Doni Kirby, who loved him dearly.
Henry was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen. He graduated from Aberdeen High School, class of 72, and attended Idaho State University.

Terry Rae Flores, 66

Terry Rae Flores, 66, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Terry was born Dec. 26, 1945 in Oceanside, Calif., to Charles Ralph Colvin and Barbara Marie Hill.  She lived her lifetime in Blackfoot. 
On July 8, 1962 Terry married Pedro “Pete” Flores in Blackfoot. 
Terry worked with her husband at their business, Pete’s Paint and Repair, for 21 years.  In her free time she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, camping and especially being with her family. 
She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and had worked at Saint Vincent’s.

John 'Alan' DeGiulio, 73

John “Alan”  DeGiulio, 73, of Sterling passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot.
He was born May 30, 1938 in Springfield, the son of Santo and Mabel Elizabeth Line DeGiulio.

FLORENCE CONDIE, 91

Florence Condie, 91, of Blackfoot passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at the Bingham Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center. 
She was born June 26, 1920 in Swan Lake to Lewis James Petty Jr. and Edith Chella Howell.
She graduated from Downey High School.
She married George L. Condie on Oct. 29, 1942, in the Logan LDS Temple
Florence was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served for 14 years as the stake organist and served as various organizations as the pianist, organist and chorister and taught in the Relief Society.

Christopher Jordan Chapman, 20

SANTA CLARA, Utah- Christopher Jordan Chapman, age 20, died IN a tragic plane crash Saturday, May 26, 2012 in St. George, Utah. He was born June 17, 1991 in St. George, Utah, a son of Chris K. Chapman and Terry Lee Denney Chapman.
Jordan grew up in St. George, Utah. He graduated from Snow Canyon High School, then attended Dixie College, and the University of Utah. Jordan had hopes of getting a degree in Exercise & Sports Science in pursuit of a physical therapist career. He had an opportunity to work with a physical therapist for two years while in St. George.

Farrell DeVon Cammack, 69

Farrell DeVon Cammack, 69, a lifetime Blackfoot resident, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at his home following a valiant battle with cancer .
He was born June 21, 1942 in Riverside to Wilbert and Eunice Ward Cammack.
He attended school in Blackfoot, graduating from Blackfoot High School.  Following high school Farrell enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He served in Vietnam and the Philippines from 1961 to 1965.
