Three Dog Night, Heart are featured acts at EISF

The Eastern Idaho State Fair is celebrating its 110th birthday and you're invited to the Barnyard Birthday Bash Sept. 1-8.
"It's the place for lots of excitement and fun," said fair director Brandon Bird. He announced this year's grandstand entertainment at the offices of I.E. Productions, the company charged with promoting the fair.
On Thursday and Friday of fair week there will be two concerts sure to please rock and roll fans, Bird said.

Blackfoot councilman will be missed

As the longest running city councilmen in Blackfoot, Farrell Cammack was clearly loved and respected by his friends and colleagues within the city offices and will be sorely missed. Cammack died at his home Tuesday evening after a tough battle with cancer.
Cammack had just been re-elected to another four-year term last November, making it his fifth term and his 17th year of service to the city. He continued to serve right up to his death.
Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue thought earnestly before speaking of his councilman and friend.

Death warrant stands in Leavitt case

Seventh District Judge Jon J. Shindurling heard arguments for quashing the death warrant issued against former Blackfoot resident Richard A. Leavitt Wednesday.
Leavitt was convicted of first-degree murder in 1985 for the mutilation and stabbing of Danette Elg. He is set to be executed on June 12.
After hearing all the arguments, Shindurling left the death warrant in place.

Death warrant still stands in Leavitt case

Howard 'Shorty' Warren Davis, 88

Warren Davis, 88, of Blackfoot passed away Monday, May 28, 2012. 
Warren was born Nov.22, 1923, in Cottage Grove, Ore., to Howard Milton Davis and Minnie Sarah Barry Davis.  He was raised in Fort Hall and attended school in Blackfoot.  After high school, Warren attended college one year before joining the Navy.  In the Navy he helped build the airport in Okinawa during World War II.
On June 24, 1950 Warren married Theona Jones in Elko, Nev. 

Norma Jean Hawkes, 83

Norma Jean Mooney Hawkes, 83, of Shelley passed away May 27, 2012, at her home of natural causes.
 Norma Jean was born May 17, 1929, in Idaho Falls to James Mooney and Grace Wilson Mooney.  She grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
 On Nov.24, 1949, she married Donald Thomas Hawkes in Goshen.  They made their home in Goshen where they raised their two sons, James and Kim.  Norma Jean was a wife, mother, and homemaker.  She also worked as a lab technician at French’s and Pillsbury in Shelley for many years.  Don passed away Jan.10, 1993.

Lisha Hope Zeim, 34

Lisha Hope Zeim (34) was granted her angel wings on May 16, 2012. (Born 7/3/77) Lisha lived in West Valley City, UT. Lisha’s children were her greatest joy; Azia Rain, River Corbin and Wesley Paydon. Lisha was married to Brandon Archabald (1995-96) and Corbin Mckinlay (1996-98). She is survived by mother, Marge (Dennis) Thornton of WVC, and father, Jim (Florence) Zeim of Nyack NY.

Relay for Life schedules more fundraisers

BLACKFOOT — Relay for Life is scheduled at the Blackfoot High School track June 15 and 16. There are still a couple of fundraising events leading up to the finale. All funds raised will go to the American Cancer Society.

Team Faith and Team Faith 2
These teams will be sponsoring a fundraising event at Chick-Fil-A in Idaho Falls on Thursday from 5-7 p.m.  Anyone who eats there and mentions Relay for Life will get 20 percent of the cost of their meal donated to the local Relay for Life Event.

City councilman dies

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot city councilman Farrell Cammack died Tuesday night. Despite a lingering illness Cammack continued to serve until his death.
Cammack was in his 17th year of service to the city. He was reelected to another four-year term in 2011.
Mayor Mike Virtue emailed the following statement on Cammack's death:
"Farrell was substance, not form. He was not pretentious; he was a "boots on the ground" type of guy, a participant, not a spectator...

Prosecutor: 'Dialogue exists between hospital, county'

Bingham County Commissioner Chairman Cleone Jolley explained the role of the county and Bingham Memorial Hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Jolley suggested questions or concerns be directed to the hospital's board or staff or to the other agencies dealing with issues related to the hospital.
"If you have further questions after this meeting, we ask that these be directed to the prosecuting attorney's office."
Questioned, Bingham County prosecuting attorney Scott Andrew said, "This is going to be a dialogue with the hospital."
