Bingham County Commissioner Chairman Cleone Jolley explained the role of the county and Bingham Memorial Hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Jolley suggested questions or concerns be directed to the hospital's board or staff or to the other agencies dealing with issues related to the hospital.
"If you have further questions after this meeting, we ask that these be directed to the prosecuting attorney's office."
Questioned, Bingham County prosecuting attorney Scott Andrew said, "This is going to be a dialogue with the hospital."
Bingham County Commissioner Chairman Cleone Jolley read a statement regarding the present-day relationship between Bingham County and BMH, Inc., Tuesday afternoon in the commissioners' chamber.
"In June of 2007, Bingham County transferred operations of what had been the county hospital to BMH, Inc.," said Jolley. "BMH, Inc., is a non-profit organization that works autonomously to provide services consistent with those that were previously provded by the county hospital.
After five years as superintendent for Blackfoot School District School District 55 and a total of 26 years with the district, Scott Crane will sit behind his desk at the district office for the last time Thursday, tying up loose ends and saying goodbye to dear friends and colleagues that he has met along the way.
BLACKFOOT — A nice crowd gathered at Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot to remember veterans who served to our nation at the Memorial Day service Monday morning.
First Sgt. Mike Merlette, retired, was the guest speaker.
Merlette served in active duty and in the reserves for 35 years.
First known as Decoration Day, the tradition of honoring war dead started in May 1868 to honor Civil War veterans, Merlette said. This observance now honors all soldiers and loved ones and is known as Memorial Day.
"A highlight of my career was training and mentoring young soldiers," Merlette said.
Once the weather warms and the roads are clear of snow motorcycles begin to hit the roadways.The temperature changes from the sunshine to the shade, the sweet smell of hay, grass and dirt and the dull roar of gears changing and engine revving all make for part of the experience and what beckons bikers from their winter hibernations. With the close of May, National Motorcycle Awareness month, a plea goes out to motor vehicle drivers to understand the importance of motorcycle awareness.
The 25 students and 12 teachers pictured here have populated the Idaho Science and Technology Charter School since it opened three years ago. Wednesday was the last day of school and these "pioneers" were recognized for "sticking with it" all three years. There are still openings available for the coming school year.

BLACKFOOT — Registration is now open for the Blackfoot Triathlon.
The event, a part of Blackfoot Pride Days, will be on July 21. It will begin at 8 a.m. Participants will bike five kilometers at the greenbelt, bicycle 20 kilometers around Jensen Grove and swim 750 meters in Jensen Grove Lake.
"This year we'll have chip timing and the T-shirts we give will be a lot nicer," said race director Kathy Tauscher. Fees are $42 until the close of online registration on July 16. They will be $47 the day of the race.
"Last year 75 people participated," Tauscher said.

CONCERT INCIDENT: May 11, 11:21 p.m.: A man said he was at a concert at the El Centenario and he was slammed into a window while being removed.
TRESPASS: May 12, 12:43 a.m.: A man said he caught a 16-year-old male on his property. He said he has had previous issues with him attempting to steal cigarettes.
DRIVE-THRU FIGHT: May 12, 5:30 a.m.: A caller at McDonald's said there are four men fighting in the drive-thru. An arrest was made.

BLACKFOOT — Roger Chase is a patient man. He understands that it takes time to entice companies to bring their facilities and jobs to Bingham County.
"We will have success but it will take time," Chase, who consults with the Bingham Economic Development Council, said over lunch last week.
"We've had five companies in for site visits in the past few weeks," he said. "The big thing is to get our name out there.
"There are some challenges we have to overcome," Chase continued. "We're somewhat power-restricted."

Walgreens is celebrating three years in Blackfoot with a Memorial Day Carnival on Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
According to Walgreens' Executive Assistant Manager Sarah Hjelm there will be activities galore for the whole family to enjoy! Here's what will be going on:
