"Full Throttle' Hutchings heads to nationals

BLACKFOOT — Timmi Hutchings is appropriately nicknamed "Full Throttle." This will be the third year in a row she will compete in the Wrangler Division of the High School Rodeo Association.
At the Idaho State event that took place in Filer, Idaho, June 1-3, Timmi won barrels; was second in goat tying and placed third in poles.
She has the hardware to prove it. At state, she won two belt buckles, a saddle, a horse blanket, goat tying rope can and $900 for earning the all-around title.

Broncos lay the wood for title

TWIN FALLS — The Blackfoot Bronco American Legion team made their way back into the Twin Falls Wood Bat Tournament championship game for the fourth consecutive season and on Saturday Blackfoot laid the wood to Upper Valley as they won their third tournament in those four tries with an 8-6 victory.
"It was an even game," Blackfoot head coach Jeff Katseanes said. "Upper Valley are legit. They were in the state tournament during the high school season so they're a very good team."

Panthers take two from Beavers

AMERICAN FALLS — Familiar foes collided on the diamond Saturday evening as the Snake River Panthers and the American Falls Beavers squared off on the Beavers home field for an American Legion double dip.
At the end of a miserable day weather wise, the Panthers picked up a pair of wins over the Beavers as Cash Cardona struck out 16 would be hitters in game one in a 13-9 win and in the nightcap, Snake River pounded out 13 hits in a 10-6 game which was called when the automatic sprinkler system turned on in the home half of the sixth inning.

Former Blackfoot man to run across Idaho

This morning, as most of us were wiping the sleep from our eyes and heading to work, former Blackfoot resident was beginning a 435-mile run across Idaho.
Starting from Fruitland, about 50 miles west of Boise, Evans will run about 50 miles a day until he reaches his home in Victor.
Evans is running to raise funds for the Tenley Foundation, a nonprofit organization which distributes funds to the families of children with cancer.
Evans explained that the organization provides funds for unexpected expenses, such as an extra trip to Salt Lake City, that insurance won't cover.

Correction It's J&J Chemical not J&J Construction

BLACKFOOT — Special agents of the Internal Revenue Service carried files out of J&J Chemical, Inc., at 50 N. Ash in Blackfoot on Wednesday.
There is no relationship between J&J Construction, owned by Jerry Stuart, and J&J Chemical. J&J Construction is a reputable company that has been in business in Blackfoot for the past five or six years.

Bingham Economic Development Council recruiting more participants

Although the results aren't visible just yet, representatives of various companies have shown an interest in bringing them and jobs to Bingham County.
"Economic development is just like a good courtship," county commissioner Ladd Carter said during a recruitment luncheon on Wednesday.
Roger Chase, who is a consultant to the Bingham Economic Development Council (BEDC), noted that representatives of five companies have made site visits to possible locations in the county.

Shelley Police seek suspect vehicle

June 6, 2012

Shelley Police are asking the public to help in locating a white truck. Specifically, it is thought the vehicle is a Ford Ranger with an extended cab, a late 90s, early 2000s model, said Cpl. Kent Swanson.
"We would like to locate the owner of the white truck to question about possible involvement," said Swanson.
About 4 p.m. Tuesday, an unarmed man walked into the East Idaho Credit Union, 418 W. Fir St. in Shelley, passed a note to a teller demanding money. He escaped on foot with an unspecified amount of cash. No one was hurt.

Samboree rolls into town

The Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds will be lively with activity now through Sunday as members of the Idaho Good Sam Organization (RV Club) roll into Blackfoot with their RV's and an agenda filled with food, learning, entertainment and fellowship for the club's annual camp out and rally - '2012 Samboree.'
This year's Samboree theme is 'Here We Have Idaho,' and Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue, along with state directors from the various Good Sam chapters, signed an official proclamation Tuesday afternoon welcoming them to Blackfoot for the week.

Hospital officials recognize donations for cemetery headstones

On a blustery Wednesday morning, officials from State Hospital South recognized the donations of family and community members which has enabled them to memorialize 30 people who are buried in their cemetery.
"We placed 30 headstones in the last month, bringing the total to 48," said assistant hospital administrator Diane Yarrington. She pointed out that approximately 1,000 people were buried in the cemetery east of the main campus from 1886 to the early 1980s.

Donna Jane Lott Johnson

June 6, 2012

Donna Jane Lott Johnson was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Wellsville, Cache County, Utah.  Her parents are Roy Neal Lott and Elizabeth Ardell Yonk Lott.  She passed June 2, 2012 at The Gables of Blackfoot, Bingham County, the widow of Whitney Owen Johnson.
