Snake River to present 'The Secret Garden'

The 45-member cast of "The Secret Garden" is ready to perform. The musical, produced by the Snake River High School Musical Theatre, opens at 7 p.m. Monday and runs through Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Snake River High School Auditorium. Tickets cost $5.
Fourth grader Lyndsie Larsen is the lead character, Mary. She is in almost every scene and is doing a marvelous job.
Her mom said, "She loves everything about the stage."
The cast was selected in April.

Shoshone-Bannock Tribes celebrate hotel grand opening

Some of the people touring the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Event Center on Friday had good things to say about it.
"It's beautiful," said LaLyn Murray, who is bookkeeper at her husband's store, Vern's RadioShack of Blackfoot. "The rooms are outstanding.
"And the suites, who would not want to stay in that for an anniversary or something?
"This is a place you'd refer people to," Murray continued.
She and John and LaVerne Cegielnik of Chubbuck were among those who attended the grand opening celebration on Friday.

Clarke tallies 4 goals in Lady Bronco loss to Idaho Falls

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos opened their 2012 soccer season on Friday afternoon as they welcomed 5A Idaho Falls to town for a non-conference showdown on the pitch.
At the end of the day junior forward Cassandra Clarke set a new school record by becoming the first female soccer player in program history to score 4 goals in a single contest. Unfortunately, the Tigers came out a little quicker on the offensive end as they built a comfortable lead and then hung on for an 8-4 victory over the Lady Broncos.

GAS THEFT: Aug. 5, 12:38 p.m.: A caller at Maverik reported a vehicle leaving without paying for $40 in fuel.

GRAND THEFT AUTO: Aug. 5, 5:03 p.m.: A man said his motorcycle has been stolen in the last few hours.

RACCOON: Aug. 6, 12 p.m.: A caller requested someone to check on a raccoon that is locked in a car at the dollar store.

CRANE ACCIDENT: Aug. 6, 9:16 a.m.: A caller requested an ambulance for a man who has been "smashed" by a crane that has fallen on him.

Obituary Daniel Ray Korth, 59

Daniel Ray Korth, 59, of Blackfoot, Idaho, affectionately known as Dangerous Dan
Korth, passed away at high Noon, with his boots on after a good fight with cancer on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the home of his sister with his family at his side in Blackfoot.
            Dan was born July 6, 1953 in Pocatello, Idaho to Donald Herman Korth and Averal Elaine James.  He attended  elementary school in Groveland and attending Blackfoot High School.

Students pass GED Boot Camp

BLACKFOOT — Hard work and persistence has paid off for five students who made it through the first ever GED Boot Camp offered by the Idaho State University (ISU) Outreach Center in Blackfoot. A graduation celebration was held in their honor at the center on Thursday afternoon.
The 'Boot Camp' is described as a very intense six-week crash course designed to prepare students in the subjects of language, reading, science, social studies and math for the GED (General Education Diploma) and the Compass college placement tests.
