Broncos trample Grizzlies 46-7 on opening night

BLACKFOOT — It had been fifty weeks since Blackfoot senior quarterback Alonzo Ramos had stepped foot on a football field following his gruesome knee injury in week three of last years state championship season.
On Friday night, Ramos showed no signs of rust as he accounted for 329 yards of total offense and five Blackfoot touchdowns in a 46-7 season opening drubbing of Skyline.
"All the stress built up over this past year, I just had to get it out," Ramos said. "Tonight, I felt like I had never been hurt. I still need to improve but it was just a great game."

ISU family mourns death of assistant track coach

The death of Jacquelyn (Jackie) Poulson, age 31, will be felt hard by so many family, friends and the Idaho State University (ISU) athletic department.
A native of American Falls, Poulson was active at ISU for over 12 years where she attended school and competed as a track and field student athlete before becoming a coach.
According to a press release from ISU, Poulson was going into her ninth year as assistant track and field coach, where she assisted coach Dave Nielsen in training multi-event athletes.

Three electrocuted in rescue attempt

Three people were electrocuted after trying to rescue a dog in Groveland Thursday night.
According to Sheriff Dave Johnson, 31-year-old Jacquelyn (Jackie) Poulson was reported missing just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Johnson said Poulson had left her home in search of the family dog. She had taken another dog with her.
When she didn't return, a group of neighbors and family began looking for her along with Bingham County Sheriff's deputies and Search and Rescue.

STOLEN RIFLE: Aug. 19, 11:11 a.m.: A caller reported a rifle being taken from his vehicle last night.

FREE BANDANAS: Aug. 20, 5:37 a.m.: A caller said someone has been inside their residence and they don't think anything has been taken but there are bandanas that were left at the house.

STOLEN FLASHLIGHT: Aug. 20, 10:28 a.m.: A man said some got into his Surburban and stole his flashlight and threw bandaids all over his front yard. He said the vehicle was left unlocked.

EISF generates big bucks

BLACKFOOT — It’s estimated that the Eastern Idaho State Fair brings in over $6 million in commerce the eight days that is open to the public and while that’s a ‘huge chunk of change,’ it doesn’t include the multiplying effect that spills outside of the fairgrounds, according to Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tish Dahmen.

Rollene waives preliminary

POCATELLO —Jason Lee Rollene, 37, of Blackfoot waived his preliminary hearing before Judge David Evans Wednesday morning. He is charged with three counts of video voyeurism.
According to the Idaho Repository, the criminal complaint against Rollene was filed July 16, 2012. He posted bond on July 31.
His arraignment is scheduled for next Tuesday at the Bannock County Courthouse Wednesday morning.
Rollene is a former manager at Jensen Jewelers in Pocatello.

Lady Panthers draw with Lady Cougars

THOMAS - A day removed from a hard fought 2-1 road win at Teton the Snake River Lady Panthers returned home to tangle with a South Fremont squad whom the Lady Panthers had vanquished just a week previous.
Unfortunately, a combination of missed first half opportunities and a building fatigue factor from back-to-back games led to a 0-0 tie by games end.

Aberdeen mayor offers reward for toilet vandals

Aberdeen mayor Morgan Anderson is offering a $100 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person (or persons) who plugged up the toilets and left the men's and women's bathrooms in ruin at Aberdeen City Park last week.
"The toilets were plugged up with toilet paper, the floors and sinks were dirty and there was mess everywhere," Anderson said. "We have to go to the expense of cleaning everything up."
Anderson said that the park bathrooms, which were upgraded last year, are locked up at night and that city crews check the bathrooms throughout the day.

District 55 patron seeks answers about 'out of ordinary' six-figure payment

Patron and former Blackfoot High School teacher Joyce Bingham simply wants to know who was paid (and why were they paid) $105,428 out of the Blackfoot School District No. 55 bank account on July 2, 2012. The payment was made using 'Auto Pay-Zions Bank' (Salt Lake City, UT) and is noted under description as AP Contract Services.

Fay Floretta McCurdy Bailey, 93

Fay Floretta McCurdy Bailey, 93, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, from causes incident to age at the Bingham County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  
Mom was born March 17, 1919, in Blackfoot, the daughter of Frank Logan McCurdy and Clara Floretta Steffenson McCurdy.
She attended elementary school in Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1937.
