Fundraisers planned for Hansen family

BLACKFOOT — Friends and family of Brent and Emilie Hansen are working together with local Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Clubs to raise funds to support the Hansen family.
Brent was killed in a recent motorcycle accident.
All money raised will go directly to supporting the Hansen family.
The following events are currently scheduled:

Fair breaks records as most attended ever

Eastern Idaho State Fair (EISF) officials have been busily crunching numbers since the fair ended on Saturday. The ending results revealed that the "Barnyard Birthday Bash" of 2012 will go down in the record books as the most attended fair in Blackfoot's history, setting a new attendance record of over 224,000 visitors. This beats the former record of 221,000 visitors set in 2009.

Community outraged

Patrons and school teachers are reacting to the news that Blackfoot School District officials denied Joyce Bingham's request to view copies of a payout from the school district's bank account in the amount of $105,428 on July 2, 2012.
Bingham discovered the payout while examining public records. The payment was made through Zion's Bank (Salt Lake City, UT) and is noted on the expenditure description as AP Contract Services.

Blackfoot remains unbeaten in 1-0 win over Century

BLACKFOOT - A week removed from their last contest the Blackfoot Broncos welcomed Century to town for a big conference match between a pair of upper echelon teams from Southeastern Idaho.
At the end of a blustery afternoon on the pitch the Bronco's remained unblemished as they walked away with a 1-0 victory.
"The wind played a part today. It made it difficult to control the ball the way that we would have liked," Blackfoot head coach Liam Pope said. "I think that the problem for us today was even though we had a lot of possession we didn't do anything with it. We just seemed a little disjointed."

The Demolition Derby sold out on Saturday night at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
The Demo Derby is sponsored by the Blackfoot Elks.

Request denied

Officials of Blackfoot School District No. 55 have rejected a patron's request to view copies of a payout in the amount of $105,428 on July 2, 2012.
Former Blackfoot High School teacher Joyce Bingham discovered the payout from the Blackfoot School District 55 Bank account when she examined public records. The payment was made using using 'Auto Pay-Zions Bank' (Salt Lake City, UT) and is noted on the expenditure description as AP Contract Services.

OFF-ROADING: Aug. 28, 12:09 a.m.: A woman said someone is driving a car in the pasture next to her house.

THEFT: Aug. 28, 9:24 a.m.: A woman said some juveniles were at her residence during the weekend and now four PSP games and two controllers are missing.

GUN THEFT: Aug. 28, 3:35 p.m.: A man said he loaned a gun to someone and it was stolen from his friends car.

BROKEN DOOR: Aug. 7:55 p.m.: A man said he came home and found his door kicked in. He said nothing has been taken.

Sarah F. Kohnke, 90

Sarah F. Kohnke, 90, of Blackfoot passed away Thursday,
Sept. 6, 2012 at The Willows in Blackfoot.
Sarah was born June 22, 1922 in La Junta, Colo., to Henry Hergenrader and Anna Barbara Olhberg.  She was raised in Fort Bent, Colo., and lived in California, Colorado, Arizona, Idaho and Kansas over the years.  Sarah graduated from La Junta, Colo., High School and then attended business college.
On March 26, 1943 Sarah married Fred J. Kohnke in Tijuana, Mexico.  Together they had two children, Sherwin and Elise.  Following Fred’s death Sarah lived in Arizona and Idaho.

James Clyde Lambert, 91

James Clyde Lambert, 91, of Mackay passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Jeff Danielson in Idaho Falls.
“Clyde” was born at the family home in Mackay to Ira and Leona Christensen Lambert on July 19, 1921. He grew up and attended schools in and around Mackay, graduating from Mackay High School. He spent his adolescent years working on the family farm and herding his father’s sheep in Copper Basin.

Myrna Lee Still Devaney, 81

Myrna Lee Still Devaney, 81, of Downey, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at her home in Downey. 
Myrna was born on July 30, 1931 in Paxton, Neb., to Clinton Edman and Roma Wamsley Still.  She was raised in Nebraska until she was 7 at which time her family moved to Idaho, eventually settling in Springfield where her mother worked for many years as the telephone switchboard operator. She attended grade school in Springfield and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1949.  Upon graduation she continued her education in Pocatello and earned her LPN license.
