Dwight L. Bingham, 93

September 11, 2012

Dwight L. Bingham, 93, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at The Willows in Blackfoot from causes incident to age.
He was born Nov. 21, 1918 in Rockford, I the son of Lorin Bingham and Edna Pearl Murdock.
 Dwight graduated from Moreland High School.
He served in the Army Air Corps in communications during World War II where he was stationed in Alentian Islands.
On Sept. 23, 1941, he married LaVerda Walton in the Logan LDS Temple.

Joan Berntson Pilkington

Joan Berntson Pilkington passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at the Promontory Point Rehabilitation Center in Idaho Falls surrounded by her family. 
Joan was born into the loving home of Russell and Clara Berntson on May 17, 1929 in Logan, Utah.  The third of four daughters, she grew up in a home surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins and filled with laughter and love.   She attended Logan schools, graduating from Logan High School in 1947 and going on to attend Utah State University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1951.

David Alec Paulk, 81

David Alec Paulk- beloved husband of Sandra Wride Moser Paulk, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, due to health issues with his wife at his side.
He was quietly laid to rest Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at the Moreland Cemetery.
Dave was born in Wewoka, Okla., on Dec 12, 1930.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Callie and Charles Paulk, 5 sisters and 1 brother. He has one living sister in Texas.
He has 7 children, David Gregory, Mathew Lance, JeriAn Callie, Alex Cherokee, Darby, Caleb David and 6 step-children, Kelsey Moon, Kendell, Kurtis, Kristie, Kash and Krachele.

Jose R. Olmos, 76

Obituary
Jose R. Olmos, 76, of Firth, passed away Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Bingham County Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Blackfoot.
He was born July 15, 1936 in Aguas Calientes, Zacatecas, Mexico to Juan Olmos and Nicolasa Ibarra.
Jose was raised in Mexico and then moved to Blackfoot in 1971 with his family.  He eventually moved to Firth where he was living at the time of his death.
On August 13, 1976, he married Acension Hernandez in Rigby, Idaho.  She preceded him in death on December 10, 2000.
He was a member of the Catholic Church.

Darrell J. Leavitt, 86
When they lay me down to rest 
Put my spurs and rope upon my chest

Darrell J. Leavitt, 86, passed away peacefully Sept. 8, 2012 in Blackfoot surrounded by family.  
Darrell was born June 10, 1926 to George and Lillie Lowe Leavitt in Moreland.  His family moved to a ranch on the Barton Flat above Mackay when he was four years old.  Darrell graduated from Mackay High School in 1944 and spent most of the rest of his life in the ranching business.

Utah State honors former Snake River star

LOGAN, Utah — A former Snake River High School and Utah State University athlete has been named to USU's athletic hall of fame.
Shae Jones-Bair was one of the most decorated woman athletes for the Aggies. She earned All-American honors during her collegiate career.
As a redshirt athlete in 1998, Jones-Bair earned her first All-American honor by finishing eighth in the pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Her second All-American accolade came at the 1999 NCAA Indoor Championships where she placed fifth in the pole vault.

District 55 moving forward to replace superintendent

Blackfoot School District 55 board members have implemented a plan to move forward in the process of replacing former superintendent Scott Crane, who resigned in June. The plan includes the implementation of a 15-member committee made up of teachers, administrators, students, business people and ethnic leaders, along with a series of public hearings within the district to gain community input on what they would like to see in a new superintendent.

Roads close in Blackfoot until Friday

The railroad crossing on Highway 91 toward the south end of Blackfoot will be smooth by the end of the week. Workmen with the Union Pacific Railroad are replacing the crossing on Highway 91 between Lincoln St. and Grant St.
Only this section of Highway 91, between Lincoln and Grant Streets will be closed from Tuesday morning (today) to Friday evening.
To avoid construction, people can travel on S. Meridian, Shilling Ave. or any number of cross streets, said Mayor Mike Virtue. The businesses along Highway 91 will remain open.

Demolition derby wraps up Eastern Idaho State Fair

The Demolition Derby got off to an atypical start Saturday night at the closing night of the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
Instead of the sound of engines roaring, there was the sound of absolute silence as hundreds of spectators paid a moment of reverence, thought and respect to several fallen Bingham County residents who were taken tragically over the last several weeks.

4-H celebrates a century in Idaho

4-H marked its 100th birthday in Idaho with style Saturday. Following the style revue, 4-H celebrated its century mark with birthday cake.
“4-H is fun for kids,” said Barbara Petty, Eastern District Director of University of Idaho Extension. “It provides for them to have positive interactions with adults.
“It prepares our youth to be productive and contributing members of society as adults,” she said.
