Steckleins donate $1,000 to Springfield park

Elmer and Lucile Stecklein, owners of Elmer's in Blackfoot, donated $1,000 to the Springfield Park project on Thursday.
The Springfield Park committee started raising funds for playground equipment in the community park last March.
"We thought this was a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community since many fond memories were made in Springfield," said Lucile Stecklein.
Steckleins raised their three daughters—Beverly, MaryLou and Patricia—in the Springfield area.
At the time, they lived on Stecklein Road in Pingree and had a store in Springfield.

Police seeking hit-and-run vehicle

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Police Department is investigating a hit and run that occurred on December 30, 2012 at 12:22 a.m.
A vehicle traveling North on Meridian at Jensen Grove Drive failed to stop at the stop sign, slid through the intersection and crashed into the fence at the entrance to Jensen’s Grove. The vehicle then left the scene.
The vehicle appears to be a mid to late 90’s Chevy pickup with an extended cab. The Blackfoot Police were able to see the accident on security footage.

Miss Idaho in semi-finals for Quality of Life Award

LAS VEGAS – Miss Idaho, Whitney Wood, 19, is competing in Miss American 2013 this week in Las Vegas, Nev. The finals of Miss America will be televised on ABC beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Miss Idaho is a semi-finalist for the Miss America Quality of Life Awards. These awards were introduced in 1988 to recognize contestants who excel in their commitment to community service.
Miss Idaho is one of seven who are competing for this award. Wood's project is Handbags of Hope: "Giving Women Confidence They Can Carry."
