SHELLEY — Shelley cross-country runners Mark Crandall (on left) and Austin Stewart prepare to sign their 3A victory banner Tuesday. For the first time, the Shelley boys' harriers won the state 3A cross country contest. Stewart was the number one runner in the 3A contest.

Chris Blake truly was larger than life. Any person that knew him can attest to that. Every aspect of his life was performed at full throttle. This began with the unconditional love he had for his family. Everything he did in life stemmed from his devotion to loved ones. He married the love of his life, Amanda Blake, in 1984 and began an incredible 29 year journey. Chris is also survived by his four children – Heidi, Matt, Joe, and Miranda.

Nelda Swearingen, 85

Nelda Faye Clements Swearingen, 85, of Basalt, passed away peacefully on Oct. 30, 2013, at The Gables of Ammon. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Jim Swearingen, daughter Glenda Swearingen, and son Rodney Swearingen.
 Nelda was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Idaho Falls to Elias G. Clements and Harriet A. Albright Clements.  She grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls.
On Aug. 3, 1944, she married Jim Cecil Swearingen at Idaho Falls.  Nelda and Jim made their home in Basalt.

Free "Eating Smart/Being Active" classes offered with CDT dinners

BLACKFOOT—A free fun, interactive 6-week program called "Eating Smart - Being Active" will be offered - starting this evening - and every Tuesday night in conjunction with the Community Dinner Table suppers at Jason Lee Methodist Church in Blackfoot. The classes will run about one hour from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
The classes, which will be taught by nutritionist Denise Durocher from the University of Idaho Extension office in Pocatello, will cover healthy eating and cooking for less, planning meals, saving money at the grocery store, food safety and being active.

Bengals win exhibition contest

It took less than four minutes for the Idaho State men’s basketball team to show the fans in Reed Gym their new look offense and defense.
No, coach Bill Evans' patented 2-3 zone is not gone; it has just been improved thanks in part to an influx of new talent and a pressure trapping perimeter defense.
In those opening minutes the Bengals forced a handful of turnovers and got five quick points from Andre Hatchett as ISU ran away with a 97-54 win over Dickinson State in the exhibition opener at Reed Gym Monday night.

Value tickets available for acclaimed guitar trios

Value tickets are available for those who would like to see the acclaimed "California and Montreal Guitar Trios" perform at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center (BPAC) Thursday at 7:30 p.m - at a discounted price.
Susan Mann, BPAC programming director, announced on Monday that $10 tickets will be offered for the last 10 rows of the auditorium.
