Cats snap Bronco win streak in 11-6 victory

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Bronco baseball squad entered Tuesday's non-conference home game with the Madison Bobcats riding a 9 game winning streak. Unfortunately that streak came to and end as Madison took advantage of 6 Blackfoot fielding miscues in a 11-6 victory.
"It's really not the worst thing that happened today," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said. "It is a reality check for us. It should bring us back down to earth so we can refocus and get ready for Century and Bonneville."

Leslie homers twice in Lady Bronco sweep of Century

BLACKFOOT — Madison Leslie hit two more bombs, including a walk off dinger in the bottom of the sixth inning of the second game as Blackfoot remained perfect in conference play with a double header sweep of Century on Tuesday evening.
"Madison is really starting to swing a big bat for us," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "You could see it in the cage earlier in the season and I knew that it was only a matter of time before she started terrorizing pitchers. She is just so strong and our line up has no holes in it. There isn't a spot in the batting order where you can pitch around a hitter."

Local economist to announce mayoral run

Dan Cravens, a regional economist with the Idaho Department of Labor, has scheduled a news conference at noon Thursday at the Blackfoot City Hall.
While sources close to Cravens have indicated that he plans to announce a run for mayor of Blackfoot, Cravens said he will have no comment until Thursday.
Mayor Mike Virtue has indicated that he will not seek another term. He has been in office since 2006.
In addition to his job with the state, Cravens is vice-president of the Bingham Economic Development Corporation and is chairman of the Bingham County Republican Party.

Mary Evelyn Draper Findlay Thompson, 87

Mary Evelyn Draper Findlay Thompson, 87, of Idaho Falls passed away April 19, 2013 of causes incident to age. She was under the care of One Source Hospice and  Fairwinds – Sandcreek Assisted Living Center.
Evelyn was born May 12, 1925 in Bingham Canyon, Utah, to Francis Marion Draper and Mary Wright Draper Lim.  She  graduated from Moreland High School.
She married Leonard Dee Findlay on Feb. 17, 1944 in Blackfoot. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Leonard passed away Feb. 20, 1960.

Arva M. Romrell, 85

Arva Mae Romrell, 85, of Blackfoot, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot.
She was born March 2, 1928 in Garfield, Utah to Robert and Mae Watson Reid.  She attended school in Magna, graduating from Magna High School.  Arva had lived in Magna, Utah and  St. Anthony, Idaho before moving to Blackfoot, where she has resided since.
She married Milton “Bud” Romrell Sr. on June 8, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Bud preceded her in death on December 7, 1998. 
Arva was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Fred Bennett Reid, 88

Fred Bennett Reid passed away peacefully Saturday, April 20, 2013, at his home near Firth.
He was born Feb. 25, 1919, at the family ranch along the Blackfoot River in Presto, Idaho, to Robert E. and Agnes Just Reid. He was the middle child of a loving family of five boys.  He had a wonderful childhood roughhousing with his brothers, Eldro, Vin, Wallace and Doug.

Howard C. Ketchum

Howard C. Ketchum, 88, of Blackfoot passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Willows Assisted Living Center in Blackfoot.
 He was born March 24, 1925 in Sandpoint, the son of William and Mary Grace Ketchum
 He attended school through the 8th grade and joined the Army on Sept. 6, 1943.  He served in the 79th Infantry Division during World War II and was honorably discharged on April 2, 1946.
 He married Carol Jean Hunt and they were later divorced.

"Chronic reflux disease, heartburn and Barrett's esophagus has been my passion for 30 years," said surgeon Kurt Birkenhagen. He has offices in In Blackfoot and Pocatello.
Birkenhagen's interest is not only professional but also personal. He has personally suffered from chronic acid reflux, heartburn and Barrett's esophagus.
