Peterson still missing

April 11, 2013

BLACKFOOT— Shawn Peterson from Blackfoot is still missing.
He was last seen on Tuesday, March 26. His family has not seen or heard from him since this date.
"We've checked on a few tips and a few leads," Capt. Robert Sobieski from the Bingham County Sheriff's office. "We'd like to find him."
Peterson is 6-foot-1 with dark hair, slender build and blue eyes. He drives a 1991 or '92 two-wheel drive blue Ford truck with Bingham County plates.

Bingham County Sheriff

SUSPICIOUS: March 19, 9:14 a.m.: A woman said a purple Jeep is parked in front of her house and the is a male inside the Jeep that is acting suspicious.

STANDING AROUND: March 20, 12:47 a.m.: A man said there are three males standing around a vehicle off to the side of the road and he believes this to be suspicious.

City cleans up Idaho Disposal mess

Idaho Disposal Systems, a recycling business on Wilson Street in Blackfoot, closed down last fall. However, that didn't stop people from continuing to drop off their garbage (recyclable or otherwise) - creating what began to resemble a mini- landfill in the parking lot.
With the spring thaw and windy conditions, the garbage was becoming more than eyesore, blowing into yards and up and down the street; prompting complaints from residents in the area and throughout the community.

Russets rally for 7th inning win over Cougars

SHELLEY — County foes collided on Tuesday afternoon as the Shelley Russets welcomed the Firth Cougars to town for a day on the diamond. The day's festivities came down to the seventh inning of play as Firth broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the frame, only to see that elation shift to disappointment when Shelley scored two runs in the home half for the 5-4 victory.

Mayoral proclamation celebrates Volunteer Day

Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue signed a proclamation at a gathering at Blackfoot City Hall Tuesday morning proclaiming April 9, 2013 as the "Mayor's Day of Recognition for Volunteerism and National Service."
Volunteer representatives from about 20 non-profit service organizations from the community gathered for the signing which was coordinated with the help of Henry Henscheid of Blackfoot. He volunteers on the Serve Idaho Commission, a division of the idaho Department of Labor, encouraging volunteerism around the state.

Broncos sweep defending state champs

April 9, 2013

POCATELLO — It was cold. It was windy. In short. It was a typical spring baseball game in Southeastern Idaho as the Blackfoot Broncos traveled south to Pocatello for a rescheduled game from an earlier season rain out.
Blackfoot entered the game looking for a regular season sweep of the Indians and by games end, that is exactly what they got as they downed the defending 4A state champions with a 10-3 ball game.

Stalker gets grant from Idaho Power for exercise program

April 8, 2013

Stalker Elementary School received a check for $1,500 from Idaho Power's "Powering Tomorrow Grants" on Monday. Now in its third year, the grant campaign recognizes schools and organizations working toward unique innovative educational programs with grants up to $1,500.
The money will be used to continue the "Learn and Be Fit" exercise program at the school in conjunction with Gold's Gym in Blackfoot.

Keniliah Eldean Lou Morning Star Tindore

FORT HALL – Keniliah Eldean Lou Morning Star Tindore went on her little journey into the spirit world on Thursday, April 4, 2013.
She was born to Regina Thorpe and Dylan Ross Tindore on April 4, 2013.
Although her time was very short here on this earth, she brought into our lives such love and joy. She touched our hearts dearly. We know the Creator will lovingly take care of her for us.

Fisk selected as Distinguished Dude

Thirteen Blackfoot High School young men took the stage last Friday night to compete for Distinguished Dude 2013.
The young men are judged, roughly, on the same points as their counterparts—the young ladies competing for Distinguished Young Women.
The guys compete in talent, fitness and strut.
Distinguished Dude 2013 is Chris Fisk. For this honor, he earned $100 cash.
Zach Later won $50 for second place. Camdon Chidester won $25 for his third place finish. Haydon Acor was fourth.

Fourth district rodeo kicks off 2013 season

POCATELLO — The Fourth district High School Rodeo closed out week one of their 2013 season on Saturday morning as the area's finest prep cowboys and cowgirls took to the indoor arena at the Bannock County Fairgrounds.
The Barrel racers kicked off the festivities with 20 participants entered in the event. By days end, several fast times were clocked but none faster than Snake River freshman Timmi Hutchings. Hutchings blistered the course in a time of 15.620 which was nearly a half second faster than second place finisher Cassidy Quinn who stopped the clock at 16.093. Coming in third was Highland product Kassidy Duffin and her 16.203.
