Broncos split pair with Knights

BLACKFOOT — After pulling a muscle in his arm while pitching a week ago against Jackson Hole, Blackfoot's Russell Osborn had been a little tentative playing.
During last weekend's tournament in Burley Osborn restrained his arm which took him out of any throwing activity for the near future.
The injury however does not stop him from swinging a bat.

Higham wins Von Elm title

BLACKFOOT — When Tanner Higham's tee shot on 18 went left, many including Higham himself thought the ball landed out of bounds.
Higham slammed his club into the ground in frustration as it appeared that his chances of winning the 52nd annual George Von Elm Golf Tournament when going to be all wet.

Shelley School Board talks budget

SHELLEY — June is budget hearing month for all school boards in Idaho. The budget hearing for the Shelley School District took place on Thursday.
"Next year, we will need to learn how to live within our means," said Business Manager Trish Dixon.
Ninety percent of the salary based apportionment is based on three factors:
° grade level of students (In this apportionment, more money is distributed to schools for high school students than elementary students.)
° education and experience for certified staff
° attendance

10,000+ expected at Scout Encampment

FIRTH — The Rise Up 2013 Encampment, Celebrating 100 Years of Scouting in the LDS Church, kicks off next Wednesday.  Over 10,500 youth and adults are registered. 
"After nearly 2 years of planning we are excited that the event is finally here," said Brian Porter, Director of Support Service, Boy Scouts of America, Grand Teton Council.
Workers from Signature Party Rental from Idaho Falls were on site Friday erecting the dining hall tent. The tent is 40 feet wide, 75 feet long and 10 feet high.

Higham back in Von Elm field

SHELLEY — Since the age of 16, Shelley's Tanner Higham has competed in the George Von Elm golf tournament, and up until earlier this week no one, including Higham had any idea if he was even going to tee a ball up when the tournament begins today.

Robotics team comes to Snake River Library

THOMAS — Books and robots. What could be more fun?
The Live Wire Robotics team read books and showed off two robots to summer readers at the Snake River School/Community Library Wednesday.
“We are hoping to host a Lego robotic camp at the Snake River Library later this summer,” said Live Wire Robotics member Dirk Stahlecker. A date is yet to be set.
Stahlecker will be a sophomore at Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT) in Cambridge, Mass., this fall. “I’m sure my participation with robotics was instrumental in my getting a scholarship to MIT,” he said.

Louis (Luis) Uriona, 85

June 21, 2013

Louis (Luis) Uriona, 85, of Blackfoot, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at The Coventry in Cottonwood Heights, Utah from causes incident to age.
He was born June 11, 1928 in Fordsen, Mich. to Jose and Louisa Uriona.
He attended school in Viscaya, Spain for two years.  He also attended schools in Pocatello, Wapello Grade School and graduated from Blackfoot High School.
In 1948, he married Estella J. Cooper at Kimball, Idaho.  They lived in Wapello and raised their five children.

Erma N. Scott, 90

Erma N. Scott, 90, of Blackfoot, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at her home in Riverside with her daughter, Teresa at her side.
She was born December 2, 1922 in Kimball, Idaho to Carrie Louisa and Leslie Moroni Nielsen. She attended Firth High School.
 On June 11, 1941, she married LeRoy M. Scott in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They lived most of their life on a farm in Pingree.  He preceded her in death on May 27, 1998.  Erma moved to Riverside with her daughter, Teresa in 2005.

Disaster declared in Bingham County

June 20, 2013

BLACKFOOT — Bingham County commissioners declared water shortage emergency in Bingham County on Monday.
The declaration states, "A disaster emergency is hereby declared to exist with Bingham County created by a severe water shortage creating an imminent threat to property, public utilities, etc."
Aberdeen-Springfield Canal Company made this request. It was adopted unanimously in an open special session.
General Manager Steven Howser said, "Aberdeen-Spring Canal Company (ASCC) irrigates about 62,000 acres through 200 miles of canals and laterals in Bingham and Power Counties.

Bobby McRae

June 20, 2013

Glen Robert "Bobby" McRae, Jr., 23, of Rexburg, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in Salmon, Idaho from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born March 2, 1990, in Rexburg, Idaho to Glen Robert and LaNita Peterson McRae. He attended elementary school in Burton and graduated from Madison High School in 2008. 
He was engaged to Michelle Versluys and planned to be married in July.
