LeRoy Henry Erickson, 95

July 8, 2013

LeRoy Henry Erickson, 95, of Pocatello, passed away on June 29, 2013, at the Portneuf Medical Center.
He was born in Pocatello on January 26, 1918, to Emil S V Erickson and Sofia Elizabeth Wallin, the third of eight children. The family moved to Moreland, Idaho, in 1932 and lived on the family farm. LeRoy graduated from Moreland High School in 1936.
He married Helen Hix in 1949. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1955. The love of his life, Helen, passed away in 1987. He later married Donna Gooch.

Jeanne Kay Strickland, 63

Jeanne Kay Strickland, 63, of Moreland, passed away Thursday July 4, 2013 after a long brave battle with ovarian cancer.
Jeanne was born on Feb. 10, 1950 in Marietta, Ohio to William H and She was a graduate of Sheridan High School in Thornville, Ohio. She continued her education at Ricks College in Rexburg.
Jeanne was married to Thomas Keith Strickland on June 26, 1970 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  Together they had five children:

Zola John, 93, of Blackfoot passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 4, 2013.  
She was born Jan. 16, 1920 in Blackfoot to Marion and Lucille Harper Sorensen.  She was the second of nine children. 
She married Thomas LaVere John on June 30, 1939.  They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union five children were born —  Thomas L. John (Bonnie) , Ronald John,  Linda Steffler, David John (Keri) and Karolyn Taberna (John).  LaVere and Zola were married for 74 years.  They lived most of their married life in the Blackfoot area.

Firth FCCLA heads to nationals

FIRTH – Five Firth High School students left Saturday to participate and
compete at the National Conference of Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
The conference takes place from July 6-12 in Nashville, Tenn. The goal of Emma Mecham’s project, “Red Hot Readers” Focus on Children, Junior Division, was to organize and execute a reading program for the first through fourth grades at A.W. Johnson Elementary in Firth to help
encourage children to read. Emma is the daughter of David and Deslynn Mecham.
