ISU soccer looks to defend title

POCATELLO — The last time the Idaho State soccer team was on the pitch at Davis Field they were celebrating a Big Sky Conference Championship.
During that weekend in November freshman goalie Sheridan Hapsic, helped propel the Bengals to the title after coming up with two huge saves during shoot out wins over Weber State in the semifinals and Montana in the finals.

In Memory of Jennifer (Jenn) Hammond Lawrence
Jennifer (Jenn) Hammond Lawrence joined her paternal and maternal grandparents on Thursday, July 25, 2013. She passed away from heart complications in Melbourne, Fla.
Jenn was born Sept. 1, 1968 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard Clair Hammond and DeAnn Adams Hammond. Jenn was the second child in a family of six children.
She graduated from Snake River High School and attended BYU-Idaho, formerly Ricks College. After college she moved with her family to Miramar, Fla. and spent the rest of her life there.

Marilyn Petersen Dye, 76

Marilyn Petersen Dye, 76 Our wonderful mother, Marilyn Petersen Dye, passed away on August 3, 2013 from complications due to a bleeding ulcer. She was a young 76 years old, having had her birthday just a week before.
She was born on July 28, 1937 in Pocatello, Idaho to Arthur and Nellie Petersen. She grew up in Moreland, Idaho and graduated from Snake River High School where she led the baton twirling team.

Talent contest for Sho-Ban

FORT HALL — Two candidates are vying for the title of Miss Sho-Ban 2013. They are Naivitsi Yabeney, age 18, and Taylor Thomas, 20.
The young ladies presented their talents Tuesday evening at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel.
Both used history passed on to them from their grandfathers to develop their talents.
Yabeney explained what a teepee represents and the construction of it.
"The teepee represents a woman's womb," she said. "The outer flaps represent the upraised arms of a woman.
"It was the women's job to set up camp and take it down," said Yabeney.

Bus drivers go to school before school

School bus drivers from Regions 5 and 6 went back to school Tuesday to review bus safety. This is an annual meeting.
The school bus drivers fill about three-quarters of the auditorium at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center (BPAC).
In the morning, two representatives from the power company spoke about what to do if the bus (or a car) becomes entangled in a power line. Idaho State Patrolman Aaron Aikele spoke about what to do in case of an accident.
