State Bar Association honors two attorneys with Blackfoot ties

Attorneys Dwight Baker of Blackfoot and Walter Bithell of Boise recently received the 2013 Idaho State Bar Distinguished Lawyer award. This is the highest award that can be bestowed on an Idaho attorney by the bar.
"I had no expectation [of receiving this award]," said Baker.
Baker has been practicing law for 42 years and is a partner in the Baker Harris Law Firm in Blackfoot. Bithell is a Blackfoot High School graduate.

Harry David Hedin, 84, of Blackfoot departed for the ‘eternal patrol’ Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at The Gables in Blackfoot.

Joseph E. Manzanarez, 81

August 8, 2013

Joseph E. Manzanarez, 81, of Blackfoot, passed away, Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at the Bingham Memorial Hospital.
 He was born May 24, 1932 in New Mexico, to Emiliano Manzanarez and Maria Carmen Perez. Joe was raised and attended school in Utah.  During is lifetime he has lived in New Mexico, Utah, California, Nevada and moved to Blackfoot in 2004.
In 1962 Joe married Barbara Wilson; she preceded him in death on June 18, 2011.
 Joe was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

4-H Market Sale successful

BLACKFOOT — The 4-H Market Sale on Wednesday brought the 2013 edition of the Bingham County 4-H Fair to a close.
A total of 216 animals were auctioned. The grand champion and reserve grand champion of goats, rabbits, swine, sheep and beef were auctioned at the top of the sale.
These top 10 animals brought $10,425 to their owners.
The Stoddard Family Endowment hog was sold and resold seven times before the winning bidder took it home. Money raised from the endowment hog goes directly back into 4-H for scholarships. Bidders gave $1,625 to this scholarship fund.

Kramer: defense must improve

POCATELLO — There was an a theme to Idaho State head football coach Mike Kramer's pre-fall camp press conference Thursday afternoon and it was simple; the defense must get better.
Anyone who sat through an ISU football game last season knows that the Bengals defense was the poorest in the nation.
