Broncos give D-backs a fight in loss

BLACKFOOT — For just the second time this season the Blackfoot High School volleyball team got to play a match on their home floor.
And for the second time on their home floor the Broncos got to face a state tournament team.

When there's a national tragedy such as Monday's shooting at the Washington Naval Ship Yard that killed 13 people, there are always ripple effects throughout the country as friends and family await news of loved ones who may have been in the line of fire. Paul and Judy Loomis of Blackfoot were among those waiting with bated breath for news of their son, Jared Loomis, who was working in the Navy Yard building at the time - just down the hall from the shootings.

Leland Date, 84

Leland “Lee” Date passed away on Sept. 12, 2013 in Idaho Falls. 
He was born Sept. 28, 1928 in Ucon to Tsunijiro “Joe” and Haruko (Harada) Date.
 Lee attended grade school in Shelley and high school in Lewisville.  He lived the majority of his life in Firth, where he farmed.  He also worked in the construction industry and retired from the Monroc Concrete Company in 1990. 
Lee attended Bethel Lutheran Church of Firth and was a member of the Japanese American Citizens League.  He was a United States Army veteran, serving the majority of his time in Monterey, Calif.   

Robert Lee Rizer II, 45

Robert Lee Rizer II, 45, passed away at Portneuf Medical Center on September 11, 2013. Robert better known as Bobby to his family was born October 5, 1967 to Robert lee Riser and Margaret Rizer in Columbus Ohio. Bobby was the third of four children. He spent his early childhood in Ohio and then moved to Idaho. He has lived in Blackfoot, Aberdeen and had recently moved to Pocatello. Bobby was blessed with one child Robert Lee Rizer III on January 11, 1994.

Vera Ann Allison, 82

Vera Ann Allison, 82, of Blackfoot, slipped away peacefully, Sept. 12, 2013, at the Bingham Memorial Hospital.
Vera was born May 6, 1931 in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of John and Ellen Bowman. She attended school at Douglas County High School where she graduated in 1949.
In May 1952 she married Bruff Allison  in Denver, Colo. Together they had two children.
Vera was a hard worker and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
