Freestyle MX back at EISF

The Monster FreestyleMX.com Worldwide Tour is coming to the Eastern Idaho State Fair (EISF) for the ninth year in a row tonight at 8 p.m. in the Grandstand arena at the EISF grounds.
Each year 10 of the best FMX riders from around the world are picked to go on this particular tour. They travel all around the country, logging an average of about 85,000 miles on their tour -bus, according to the founder of Freestylemx.com, Marc Burnett.
"The EISF show is by far the best crowd we have all year long," said Burnett.

City to move forward with wastewater treatment plant improvements

The Blackfoot City Council unanimously approved pursuing 'judicial confirmation' for a new clarifier and improvements at the city's wastewater treatment plant at Tuesday's city council meeting.
A "judicial confirmation" means asking a judge to review the costs and deem it an ordinary and necessary city expense. If a judge agrees, then the city does not have to have a public vote to take on the debt.
A clarifier tank removes solids from coming into the plant from the city's sanitary sewer system and removes deposits (such as scum and oil) off the top of the water.

Arm wrestling champs crowned

BLACKFOOT — The 2013 State Arm Wrestling Championship took place on Saturday at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. The 21st annual championship drew 158 participants from Idaho, Utah, Montana and Nevada.

Injury crash on Highway 39

Free stage comedian/juggler has audience cheering

BLACKFOOT—You may not have intended to stop and watch Paul Issak perform on the free stage at the Eastern Idaho State Fair, but the comedian/juggler has a way of raising the enthusiasm and drawing people, young and old, to his show once he hits the stage.
Jason and Joni Bateman of Burley settled in to watch the show with their two children after being drawn in by the laughter and cheers of the crowds.
"We're glad we stopped in. This is fun...it's free and our kids are loving it. Look at their smiles," Joni said.

Two vehicle crash on Hwy 39

September 3, 2013

On Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at 7:27 a.m. the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash, westbound on State Highway 39, near milepost 47, near Blackfoot.

Bronson Smith, 17, of Pingree, was traveling eastbound on State Highway 39 in a 1991 Nissan Sentra. Olivia Anderson, 17, of Blackfoot, was traveling westbound on State Highway 39 in a 1992 Ford Victoria. Smith was turning northbound into All American Gas when he failed to yeild to Anderson.

Smith was transported by ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Elaine Poog Ingawanup, 86

Elaine Poog Ingawanup, 86, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
She was born March 25, 1927 to Peter Poog and Alice Deepwater in Ross Fork.
 She attended the Fort Hall Boarding School and Chemawa Indian School in Oregon. She also attended Idaho State University office occupations program.
Elaine married Jim Ingawanup in May 1947 and they made their home in Ross Fork where they were ranchers.

Melvina Lee 'Vina Lee' Barnes Belnap

Melvina Lee Barnes Belnap, 86, of Moreland passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sept. 1, 2013 at her sister’s home from a brief illness. 
She was born Aug. 28, 1927 to Forrest Walker and Ruth Elzada (Sanders) Barnes in Idaho Falls and later moved to Oklahoma and then back to Hamer.  She graduated from Roberts High School and Ricks College (Brigham Young University-Idaho), and taught at Rigby Elementary for two years.  Later she attended Utah State University to receive a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

Having lived a long and fulfilling life, our Heavenly Father has called our Mom home to be reunited with her husband of 61 years, Earl Anderson, her son Barry, daughters Earline, Luana and Vickie. Her Sister Norma (Lawrence Lewis), three cousins that her parents raised, Bill, Florence & Rose and her parents John and Virginia Parsons.

Jason Claire VanOrden, 26

Jason Claire VanOrden, 26, of Pingree passed away Thursday, Aug.29, 2013 in Pocatello. 
Jason was born Sept. 16, 1986 to Julie Ann Tsukamoto and Garth VanOrden in Pocatello.  He lived his lifetime in Pingree, and attended schools in the Snake River School District and in Loa, Utah.
In October of 2011, Jason married Camille Hogue in Pocatello.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He loved working with his family on the family farm.  In his free time he enjoyed snowboarding, fishing and playing the violin.
