Aberdeen couple starts home video business

ABERDEEN — An interest in media and the impending closure of Aberdeen's J.R. Simplot plant in the spring of 2014 has prompted Terry and Cindy George of Aberdeen to take on a new venture.
The couple have opened "Home Video Studio" (a franchise under Idaho Gem State Media) at 251 S. 5th E. in Aberdeen where they specialize in video editing, video to DVD transfer, DVD and CD duplication, photo video montages, home movie transfers, video slide transfers, video tape repair and much more.

State DYW contest opens Thursday

IDAHO FALLS – The Idaho Distinguished Young Woman (DYW) contest is this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Idaho Falls Civic Auditorium. The contest begins each evening at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person per evening or a ticket for each of the three evening performances can be purchased for $25.
Tickets can be purchased at the box office.
Four distinguished young ladies will represent Bingham County in this contest.
·         Miko Toussaint represents Blackfoot.
·         Malia Saupan represents Snake River.
·         Aspen Poulson represents Aberdeen.

High school students pursue quest for smoke-free parks

BLACKFOOT—The student health council at Blackfoot's Independence High School is not giving up on its quest to see 'smoke-free' parks in the city.
Members of the student health council will give a presentation (on behalf of the Southeastern Idaho Public Health's Tobacco Prevention Program) at Tuesday's city council meeting. The student presentation will be followed by a public hearing on the issue.

Cougars crush Bulldogs 59-7

FIRTH — Coming into Friday night's home game with Ririe, Firth senior defensive back Brady Oleson had not started a game this season.
Naturally the game plan of the visiting Bulldogs was to attack the side of the field Oleson was playing.
That plan backfired.

Fundraiser ongoing for Blackfoot native

IDAHO FALLS — Jen Andrus was hoping to win "Bish's RV Challenge" and walk away with a brand new $20,000 travel trailer. Her wish was short-lived.
The former Morning News reporter was selected into the top 25 and then got enough votes on Facebook to be one of the top 12 contestants to play in the "Survivor"-style competition and live in an RV for a week.
She completed the first challenge (a team obstacle course) on the first night and then something went wrong.

Lydia 'Toots' Edline Chaffin, 98

Lydia “Toots” Edline Chaffin, 98, passed away Sept. 24, 2013.
Mom was born to Julius (Gustav) Edward Bergeman and Emma Kastning Bergeman in Fairmont, Minn., on April 2, 1915, the sixth child of 11 children.  Her parents and the children moved numerous times to various towns in Utah before moving to Blackfoot, in 1932, sometimes living in a tent. She attended school until the 8th grade. 

Longtime district board clerk retires

BLACKFOOT—Longtime Blackfoot School District Board Clerk Margaret Contor attended Thursday night's school board; however, she was not in her usual seat.
Contor retired from the district this month after nearly 25 years of service and was at the meeting for special recognition from the board in front of a room full of friends, patrons and district personnel.
Contor started at the district in the early 80s as a part-time secretary and took on the full-time position of duty clerk and secretary to the superintendent in 1989.

BMH open house successful

BLACKFOOT — Free flu shots were a great draw at the open house at Bingham Memorial Hospital on Thursday. The open house ran from 5-7 p.m. People started lining up one hour before the open house started to get free flu shots.
"We have flu shots for everyone who is here before 7 p.m.," said one of the receptionists.
"I came for the free flu shots," said Sally McCasland. "I knew several of the doctors here; I've received really good care here."
Winn Larson brought his mother, Lois, for a flu shot, and then got a flu shot for himself, along with dinner.

Lady Broncos down Bees 3-1

BLACKFOOT — For Blackfoot senior Cassandra Clarke finding the back of a soccer net is not something that is very difficult.
But Thursday afternoon against Bonneville, finding the back of the net proved to be a tough task.
Clarke's first three shots on goal were stopped by the Bonneville goalie, but in the 35th minute Clarke finally found the back of the net scoring the final Blackfoot goal as the Lady Broncos walked way with a 3-1 victory.
