Broncos earn season split with Panthers

BLACKFOOT — A week ago in Thomas the Snake River and Blackfoot boys basketball teams battled for the full 32 minutes, but it was the Panthers that were able to overcome a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to walk away with the win.
Friday night the two teams met for the second and final time this season in Blackfoot and for two and aha half quarters the game was again a battle.
But this time the Broncos found some late life finishing the third quarter on a 10-0 run and carrying the momentum into the fourth quarter as they took down the Panthers 51-43.

Spudnik gives to Bingham Crisis Center

BLACKFOOT — Spudnik and its employees gave the Bingham Crisis Center a check for $9,342 on Friday.
The employees raised $4,671; that sum was matched by Spudnik.
Spudnik employees also donated 6,204 pounds of food. It took three pickup trucks to move the food.
"We had a huge competition for the food donations," said planning committee member Kyler Jacobs. "We enjoy helping [organizations] that give to people who need it.
"We, as a company, like supporting those who live around us," said Jacobs.

Milk cartons, plastic bowls needed for Christmas igloo surprise

BLACKFOOT — A year of hardships is not dampening the Christmas spirit of Mandy and Jeffrey Stewart. In fact, they are anticipating a Christmas more fun and meaningful than ever as they strive to build an outdoor igloo and winter playland (of sorts) out of plastic products for their children and the children of their close friends. Mandy has appropriately dubbed the igloo project - "Operation Christmas Igloo."
Due to some health problems and a series of unfortunate circumstance, the Stewarts lost their house and cars and are currently staying in Blackfoot with family.

Lady Panthers run past Lady Broncos

THOMAS — When the Snake River and Blackfoot teams met just before Thanksgiving the Broncos escaped with a one-point home win.
The two teams met for the second and final time this season on Thursday at Snake River, and this time the result was vastly different as the Panthers came out ready to play.
Scout Baldwin scored 10 of the Panther first 13 points to lead Snake River to a 64-47 win over Blackfoot.

Myrna Jean Keele, 74

December 19, 2013

Myrna Jean Keele, 74, of Blackfoot, passed away Monday, Dec, 16, 2013 at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Myrna was born on July 1, 1939 in Idaho Falls to Darrell and Melva Goodson Fox.  She is a lifetime resident of Southeast Idaho and attended school in Idaho Falls.
 On June 2, 1962 she married Darryl Keele in Idaho Falls.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on May 15, 1980.  Darryl preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2004.

Gilbert J. Barnard, 82

Gilbert J. Barnard, 82, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and friend to all, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 in Blackfoot.
Gilbert was born July 31, 1931 in American Falls to William T. and Elizabeth Backman Barnard.
Gilbert served in the Army during the Korean War. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he met Carolyn Neeley. They were married Feb. 27, 1953 in Columbia, South Carolina and later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 15, 1953.

Lady Russets hang on for win over Eagles

SHELLEY — So far this season game have gone one of two ways for the Shelley Lady Russets, one a quick start and then a struggle to hold on at the end. Or two, A slow start and then a second half rally to get back into the game.
Wednesday night it was a hot start and some big plays down the stretch that gave the Lady Russet s 44-43 win over Marsh Valley.

Two authors to sign books at local store

Two local authors, Kirby Jonas and Donna McArthur, will be signing copies of their latest books on Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Stinkin' Cute Scrapbook Store (126 Bridge St.) in Blackfoot.
Businesswoman Dawn Moldenhauer, owner of the store, is good to host local authors in her store for book signings, saying, "The local authors need our support. It's nice to have some good authors here in Blackfoot to personalize Christmas gifts and not have to drive out of town to a chain store."

Live nativity scheduled Saturday, Sunday

Members of Blackfoot's faith communities have collaborated to put together a live nativity at Jensen Grove on Saturday and Sunday.
The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. each of those nights. Horse-drawn wagons will take people through the wooded park to view scenes depicting the events that surround the birth of the Savior.
Live entertainment and refreshments will be available next to the warm fires in the shelter.
Organizers encourage people to come Saturday since they said they expect shorter lines that day.

Schmitt named 3A POY

BLACKFOOT — After leading the Shelley Russets to their second consecutive 3A state championship, Shelley quarterback Kaden Schmitt was named the 3A player of the year.
