Cougars top Panthers on the mats

MORELAND — Snake River took to the mats at home against Firth for a Bingham County match up on Wednesday evening. SR started the night with three JV matches against Firth. The highlight of the JV matches was Cutler Howell’s match against Hunter Ririe which was a tech in the second round. Firth’s JV took two of the matches while SR won one. After several forfeits from the Firth team and several others as the night progressed, the varsity matches started at the 120 weight class with Kaden Bench wrestling Jace Wilding.

District 55 trustees to call for supplemental levy

Trustees of Blackfoot School District 55 are conducting a board meeting tonight at 6 p.m. to discuss the supplemental levy election.
The meeting will be conducted by interim superintendent Chad Struhs and will be held at the district office, 270 E. Bridge St., in Blackfoot.

First baby of 2013 arrives in Blackfoot

Blackfoot's first baby of the year couldn't wait to get here. Baby Naomi Baye Rowbury was born six weeks early to become the first baby of 2013 born at Bingham Memorial Hospital.
Naomi was born at 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
She weighed five pounds, 10 ounces, and was 18 1/2 inches long. She has light brown hair.
Naomi is the first child of her parents, Jack and Loretta Rowbury, and the first grandchild of her paternal grandparents, Miriam and Paul Rowbury.
She is grandchild number five on her mother's side. Both of her mother's parents, Ron and Rhonda Birt, are deceased.

Former probation officer goes to jail

Former probation officer Daniel Darwin Orders, age 32, was sentenced to two years fixed and eight years indeterminate in the Idaho Department of Correction Wednesday morning for two counts of lewd conduct with a child under 16 and one count of rape of a female under 16.
Orders was sentenced Wednesday morning by Judge David Nye.
As part of his sentence, Orders must register as a sex offender. Both sentences will be served concurrently.
On Oct. 19, Orders pleaded guilty to these charges.

Janet Rowbury, 68,

January 2, 2013

Janet Rowbury, 68, of Blackfoot passed away December 28, 2012 at her home from Cancer. She was under the care of Encompass Hospice.
She was born June 5, 1944 in Rigby, Idaho to Vernon Austin Browning and Gladys Louise Strupp.
She enjoyed being with her family, working in her flower garden and going to garage sales.

Gordon Hutchings Durney, 102

Gordon Hutchings Durney, 102, passed away in his home under the care of his family and the Blackfoot Home Health and Hospice on December 27, 2012, in Blackfoot, Idaho. 
 

Rexford Dewey Christensen, 88

January 2, 2013

Rexford Dewey Christensen, born in Blackfoot June 3, 1924, died in Orofino on Dec. 29, 2012 of natural causes.
When he was a year old his mother carried him a block down the street to visit her friend who had that day given birth to Edith Clark. Rex met her the day she was born, and would marry 19 years later in 1944. They were married for 68 years.
At the end of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator on a B-29. He worked for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for over 20 years and as a police chief for Amtrak for five, retiring in 1982 to Blackfoot.

Janet Gay Nacke, 76

            Janet Gay  Cutler Nacke, 76, of Fort Hall, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at
Pocatello Care and Rehab in Pocatello.        
           
            In accordance with Janet’s wishes no services are being planned.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent to the family at: condolences@hawkerfuneralhome.com
            In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Friends of the Animal Shelter, 31 Avenue of The Chiefs, Box 4169, Pocatello, Idaho.

Lucius Edward Gardner, 29

Lucius Edward Gardner, 29, of Pocatello, Idaho passed away December 27, 2012 at his home.
            He was born March 17, 1983 in Wichita, Kansas to Ronald Blake Gardner and Sandra Jo Robinson Elison.  Shortly after his first birthday, his parents separated and Blackfoot, Idaho became his new home where he spent the majority of his life.
            He attended school in the Snake River School District and earned his GED at Idaho State University.  He furthered his education through on-line courses.

Diane Turner Killpack, 74,

January 2, 2013

Diane Turner Killpack, 74, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012, in St. George, Utah.
Diane was born October 14, 1938 to Orin and Cleo Spackman Turner, in Rockford, Idaho. She was the oldest of three children.  She grew up in Rockford and Firth, attending school, helping on the family farm and working at Bingham Co-op.
