THOMAS — It's been a couple of weeks since Snake River defeated Parma for the championship in the Class 3A state volleyball tournament.
But Makena Shelley and her teammates still have a visual picture of the final moments of that final match at Couer d'Alene High School.

Diabetes awareness month

BLACKFOOT— Susan Jensen, founder of Rollin For A Cause, has been successful in achieving her goal of having the Diabetes awareness ribbon printed on the front page of every issue of the Morning News for the month of November a reality.
"It's amazing what you can do if you go through the proper channels and just actually ask for something like this [the ribbon in the paper] to be done. It's amazing," said Jensen.
The month of November is National Diabetes Awareness month and today marks World Diabetes Awareness Day.

Health insurance help given at BPAC presentation

BLACKFOOT — Three presenters who are part of the 19-member board of Your Health Idaho were at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center to explain the Idaho health exchange to the 22 people present.
"I came mostly for my married children; to learn how it will affect them," said Deanna Lamprecht.
She said she received some answers.
The presenters were Steven Weeg, Todd Bateman and Randy Gardner. Weeg explained the requirements of the insurance. Bateman gave an overview of comparing different insurance plans. Gardner explained how to use the Your Health Idaho website.

free panel presentation on the Idaho Health Insurance Exchange at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center (870 S. Fisher St.t) from 7-9 p.m. tonight.  Idaho Health Insurance Exchange Board Chair Stephen Weeg will give an up-to-the-minute overview of the Exchange. Todd Bateman with Regence Blue Shield will address important details to know when evaluating plans and Your Health Idaho Community Outreach representative Randy Gardner will share experiences with the Exchange and how to navigate the process.

Youth present check for animal shelter and propose to proceed with project

Youth volunteers Braden and Tracen Mangum presented the City of Blackfoot with a $1,000 check to be used for improvements at the Blackfoot Animal Shelter at Tuesday's city council meeting. The boys were awarded the scholarship through ABC's Good Morning America for their efforts in project "Save A Pet," a summertime project they did at the Blackfoot Animal Shelter to help get more dogs and cats adopted into good homes.

Maria Consuelo 'Chelo' Lora, 53

Maria Consuelo”Chelo” Lora, 53, of Blackfoot, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at her home.
She was born Dec. 7, 1959 in Zimapan, Hildalgo, Mexico to Narciso Lora Labra and Placida Cruz.
Maria received her education in Zimapan, Mexico and had lived the past 22 years in Blackfoot.
She was a parishioner of the Roman Catholic Church.
She married Nemorio Trejo on May 4, 1994 in Blackfoot.
Maria worked at Idaho Potato Packers, now NonPareil.  She enjoyed cooking, singing, music and was very family-oriented. She was very kind, friendly and loved by everyone.

Lillian Timbana 60

Lillian Timbana 60, passed away on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 of natural causes.
Lillian was born on May 2, 1953 in Pocatello, the daughter of the late Stanley Guardipee Sr. and Nancy Diggie.
She lived her life in Fort Hall and Pocatello. She married Tom Jones and later divorced; they had two sons, James Jones and Eli Jones. She later married Clinton Timbana, her lifelong companion, in 1997.

Wade Lynn Hone, 42

Wade Lynn Hone, 42, of Idaho Falls and formerly of Blackfoot, passed away on Nov. 7, 2013 as a result of injuries sustained in a single-car accident. He will be sorely missed by family and friends across the United States and beyond.
Wade was born on Aug. 5, 1971, in Mesa, Ariz. He was the first of five children born to his parents, Dennis and Karen Hone. In his first four years, his family moved to Hillsboro, Ore. and then to Bellevue, Iowa for a short time, before finally settling in Blackfoot in 1975.
