June 9th
POCATELLO—Whether you're a staunch believer in Bigfoot or just mildly curious about the elusive creature, you'll want to check out the "Walking With Bigfoot" Convention at the Clarion Inn in Pocatello on June 15.
Author Becky Cook, who grew up hearing stories of "Bigfoot on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation and wrote the book "Bigfoot Lives in Idaho," organized the event and is pleased to welcome some renowned speakers on Bigfoot to the convention.
June 7th
The National Trappers Association's 12th annual Western Trapping & Outdoor Expo is taking place this weekend at the Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds.
Thirty-five vendors are on site. From 1,200 to 1,500 people are expected to attend this three-day expo that started Friday and ends Sunday.
The animal 9-year-old Dawson Kramer likes to trap is a muskrat. Dawson and his family are from Fairfield.
His dad, Rusty Kramer, said he learned trapping from his dad and grandpa.
"We never did fishing," Kramer said. "We trapped."
He sells the skins for mittens, hats or taxidermy.

AMMON — A night after watching a late comeback fall short, the Shelley Russets American Legion baseball team retook the field of Hillcrest High School for day two of the Idaho Falls tournament.
While the Russets did a lot of things right during their two games, one thing came back to bite them every time, and those were walks.
BLACKFOOT — 77 fifth graders from Blackfoot elementary schools, and one fifth grader from Fort Hall, were awarded a free bike from Phil Meador
Toyota, for succeeding in their Perfect Attendance Spells Success (PASS)
BLACKFOOT— It's truly a wonder what one loving and strong male influence can have on one's life.
Some people call this man their grandfather, brother, uncle, or family friend; but most refer to this man as their father.
We asked our Facebook friends why they feel that their dad is the best dad in the world, and we were truly touched by their response.
MORGAN'S BRIDGE — The wagons didn't show up for the commemorative Wagon Train but about 30 riders took advantage of the trail ride.
Morgan's Bridge was the campsite on Thursday.
The trail ride continues today from Morgan's Bridge to the lunch site at Trail Creek Road. Tonight's camp will be set up at Miner's Creek Road.
Everyone is welcome to join the trail ride at any point.
Musicians performed Thursday evening. Cowboy poetry will be featured tonight.
The ride ends at Cedar Creek on Saturday. At 1 p.m. on Saturday, the county is sponsoring a free barbecue at Cedar Creek.
June 6th
AMMON — With the bases loaded and two outs and the game tied 8-8, Shelley's Konnor Gilstrap stepped to the plate looking to drive in the go-ahead run.
After working a 2-0 count, Gilstrap took a hack at a fastball that appeared to be right down the middle. But instead of depositing the ball into the outfield for a hit, Gilstrap popped out to the first baseman to end the inning.
Gene William Speas, 85,of Blackfoot passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at Bingham Memorial Hospital from natural causes. Gene was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Woodville to William Edwin and Violet Elvira (Hammer) Speas. He was raised on a farm during his childhood and was always around animals and learned to love them, especially “little animals.”
BLACKFOOT — Chris Herres of Blackfoot worked in
mining and industry for a number of years. She taught
classes in safety and similar subjects.
“This is an investigation, not a commitment,” said
Herres of her interest in the program. She added that
she has long enjoyed teaching.
On Wednesday she explored a program called
American Board. It provides individuals interested in
changing to a teaching career an alternative to a traditional
path to a certificate.
Cherri Sabala, the Idaho representative, said the
program takes up to a year to complete. It requires a

BLACKFOOT — The start of the 2013 American Legion baseball season was delayed by a couple of days for the Blackfoot Broncos thanks to a scheduling error.
But the layoff did not seem to have any ill affects as the Broncos earned a doubleheader split with the Pocatello Razorbacks Wednesday at Blackfoot High School.
