On Thursday afternoon, The Willows Assisted Living & Memory Care in Blackfoot hosted its first Senior Awareness Day.
A variety of services were available for exploration. These included hair care for mature hair and information about adult cradle cap, elder care--estate and life care planning for seniors--and denture care.
Information about home health and hospice services, pharmacy services and diabetic foot care was also available.
âWhat Iâm emphasizing here today is crime prevention for senior citizens and how to get rid of unused meds,â said Blackfoot Police Detective Paul Hardwicke.
MERIDIAN â Three different Russets cracked double-digit scoring as Shelley cruised into the 3A semi finals with a 60-44 win over Payette on Thursday evening.
Playing the last of the four opening round games the Russets took note of the earlier upset of conference rival Sugar-Salem as they came out quick on the Pirates, leading to a 15-9 first quarter lead.
âIt was hard to push it as much as we wanted to against their zone with them getting back we didnât get quite as many easy looks as I would have liked to have gotten,â Shelley head coach Dave Hadley said. âFirst game of the state tournament for all of these kids except for McKay, McKay got some time as a freshman, and for the first time on a pretty big stage you have to expect some nerves. Overall execution wasnât great but we got a win and I guess thatâs what matters now.â

Riding a nine game winning streak Snake River looked to run it to ten and that is exactly what they did, although it was a little tighter than anticipated, as they held off a furious Buhl comeback attempt before escaping with a 38-37 victory.

While many urgent issues need to be addressed, Blackfoot School District 55 trustees will not have a school board meeting in the month of February, because of a lack of a quorum to legally conduct business.
February 27th
Students from Blackfoot and Firth high schools will have a full day in a real Bingham County courtroom on Saturday. They will be competing in the annual "Idaho Law Foundation's" Mock Trial Competition.
Four teams consisting of 6 to 9 students from Valerie Williams (BHS) and Trevor Clayson's (FHS) "Mock Trial Classes" will compete against one another, playing various roles as they simulate a real trial on "battery and bullying allegations."
Local attorneys Ann Taylor and Jared Harris volunteered as "attorney coaches" preparing the students for the competition.
February 26th
Southeast Idaho residents  Stacy Stutts, a freelance film producer formerly with CNN and Al Jazeera, and brothers Jonas and Ivan Marcinko recently attended and filmed a project called Wings of Kilimanjaro. Â
This took place on Feb. 5 on the African mountain itself.
Stacy, Jonas and Ivan, along with a group of 95 paragliders from 27 different countries and a crew of over 750 guides and porters ,ascended âKiliâ as the locals sometimes call it, to cover the story.
The Idaho contingent was there to cover the extreme event. The goal was to launch the biggest paragliding event to date.

Brady Kent Findlay, 24, of Idaho Falls, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
He was born July 2, 1988 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kent George and Kimmra Ann Nugent Findlay. Brady was raised in Springfield and attended school in Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen High School in 2006. Following graduation he attended Idaho State University, studying Computer Science and earned an associate's degree. Brady has also lived in Pocatello and was currently living in Idaho Falls.
Brady was engaged to Ashli Anne Boone.
Lida Hale, 97, of Pingree passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at The Emerald House in Blackfoot, from causes incident to age.
Lida was born Nov. 28, 1915 in Thomas to Jacob L. VanOrden and Wilhelmina Steubesand. She was raised in Thomas and graduated from Thomas High School in 1933. She then attended Idaho State University in Pocatello and studied Home Economics.
On Nov. 28, 1934 Lida married Calvin Leroy Hale in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Â
