Bingham County Sheriff
BURGLARY: March 5, 4:26 p.m. A woman said someone broken into her residence and her prescription medication is missing.
GAS THEFT: March 6, 4:15 p.m.: A man said he believes people have been stealing gas from his fuel pumps. An arrest was made.
ON ITS TOP: March 6, 10:21 p.m.: A caller said a vehicle is on its top somewhere between Shelley and Idaho Falls on I-15.
DEATH THREATS: March 7, 7:38 p.m.: A woman said she received a call threatening rape and murder and the caller said they could see lights on at her house.
March 19th
Second graders at Blackfoot Charter Community Learning Center (BCCLC) designed and built a city they named Diamondville.
It took the 44 second graders about two months to build this city. Amy Ogden and Katrina Elliott were the teachers working on this project.
The city, Diamondville, measures 12 feet by 15 feet. Some of the features in the city are homes, the mayor's mansion, schools, hotels, McDonald's, a western store, a hospital and veterinarian clinic, other businesses as well as roads, an overpass, a racetrack, railroad and cemetery, with a parking lot.
Those driving by the Sartori cheese plant in Blackfoot the past couple of days may have noticed the building's new signs. On Tuesday, Glanbia Foods of Twin Falls, the world's largest producers of American-style cheese, announced that they purchased Sartori Foods on March 14, 2013.
All of Sartori's (approximately 70) employees were kept on to work for Glanbia. The workers say that "this is positive move for the company and Bingham County."
BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos got a pair of solo home runs by Morningrose Tobey as they kept their season record unblemished in a 3-0 win over the visiting 5A Skyline Lady Grizzlies on Tuesday afternoon. In what was listed as a double header on the schedule, the teams wound up playing just one game and in a classic pitchers duel, it was Tobey and the rest of the Lady Broncos who were the victors.
"It was a tough game," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "The pitching for both teams was just fantastic and we were able to get a couple of key hits. Morningrose definitely helped herself out and defensively we got the job done."
SHELLEY — On a near picture perfect day the Shelley Lady Russets welcome the Snake River Lady Panthers to town for an afternoon of softball. For the Lady Russets, it was their first outing of the year while the Lady Panthers entered the game with a 3-3 record thus far on the young season.
By days end, it was the Lady Panthers who emerged victorious as they pounded out 16 hits in a 14-7 win.
"It was a good day. It was beautiful weather and the girls came out and hit the ball," Snake River head coach Kay Martin said. "We never were really in control of the game though until that big inning."
Indeed the game was a tug of war over the first five innings of play with Snake River taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning and the Lady Russet regaining the lead at 4-2 with a three run home half of the fourth inning.
Helen Guthrie, 80, of Blackfoot passed away March 15, 2013 at The Willows in Blackfoot.
She was born July 31, 1932 in Quick, West Virginia, the daughter of Hubert Fredrick Hoffman and Thelma Myers.
She lived in Charleston, W.Va.; San Francisco, Calif.; Burbank, Ohio and moved to Blackfoot in 2004.
Helen worked for Charleston General Hospital, KDSS Senior Center and the Central Parking System, all in Charleston, W.Va.
She enjoyed playing Bingo and reading.
Robert Ray Jones, 73, of Blackfoot passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Bingham Memorial Extended Care Facility.
He was born March 29, 1939 in Blackfoot to Simion Dlawn Jones and Leda Hughs Jones.
He lived his lifetime in Blackfoot and received his education there. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Robert worked for various farms in the area and then worked for the City of Blackfoot street department and animal control.
He enjoyed traveling with his brothers on day trips and camping.
Estelle Louise Nelson, 38, of Shelley passed away March 15, 2013 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Jayna Kaye Wareing, 51, of Firth passed away March 17, 2013 at her home after a long courageous fight with cancer.
She was born Jan. 9, 1962 in Heber City, Utah to Ray Logan and Joan Tater Settles. Her parents were later divorced and her mom married Erman Duane Martindale, who became her second dad. Jayna was raised and attended schools in Shelley, graduating from Shelley High School.
On Feb. 21, 1981 she married Wayne Wareing in Blackfoot. Together they made their home in Firth.
OGDEN, Utah — Darwin Eric Richard Dayton, 36, of Ogden died at his home, on March 10, 2013.
